To much flow?

Well that depends on what kind of corals your keeping. LPS like more of a medium to low flow. Sps love high flow conditions my gig anemone tank has 2200gph in a 45which is the limit on my tank because it wants to rearrange my sand bed if I don't direct the flow just right.

Corals and fish are use to alot of flow, but they need to have it in a wide pattern instead of a narrow stream powerhead.

That was something I had not given any thought to thanks for the food for thought. If I have a powerhead that provides alot of flow would I be better off pointing it at the glass to try and help the flow diffuse before it goes right over my rock and coral?

I think you would be better off getting one or more of the propeller type powerheads.
There are several in the lower cost range ( you get what you pay for) and some better ones that cost more.

I am using two propeller types now a hydor koralia not sure what its flow rate it the sticker is gone and it was one I got for free I know its less then 1250 because I am also using a aqueon 1250 that I had for a freshwater tank I was going to set up but never did. this is in a 40B flow seems ok nothing is falling over the few corals I have in the tank are wide open and seem happy, also the sand bed is not being disturbed at all.

On my wifes tank, 110g 44"x 24"x 24", i have a pump on each return. Each pump is rated for 1350sale gph. Theyre directly under each return from the sump traveling straight up about 4 feet and out into her tank. The returns are the dual locline returns. Theres one on each side. I have 2 pointed at the front glass and the other 2 crossing each other. Her tank is mostly softies and a few lps. The corals really seem to enjoy it.

I run 3 hydor 1050's on my 70 gallon. I asked the same question a few months back and most people said more flow is often better.
after reading more I also found flow is also good for suspending the fish poop and letting roll in the current and break down then it goes threw your skimmer and and carbon if you have that then back to the tank. The fast this happens the less likely you are to have ammonia build up in your tank.

Saw the word flow and got goose bumps! 
. My personal view on flow is you want enough flow to cover all areas of your tank to prevent any dead spots. Proper placement of the flow makes a huge difference so it's something to keep in mind. Sometimes its not the extra gph you need, but rather just readjusting your flow. I had what many may consider overkill or too much flow in my 38 gal, but everything responded to it just fine and had no issues. I ran a total of 9 nozzles that each could be adjusted independently pushing roughly 4,000 gph in a small 38 gal cube lol.

Im SLOOOOOWLY building up a 15g. Was thinking of trying for what krish did. 100x turnover...lol. (Thanks krish, wife thinks im crazy now...lol)

I thank krish for that. I saw a few pics of what he was talking about. Looked crazy. I made a mistake though. I put some oolite sand in the tank with some rock. All dry and dead. Looks pretty cool. So instead of a high flow sps nano, i may go with a lower flow zoo garden nano. Im confused now. Dang it. Options options...lmao

small update moved the 2 powerheads I was using and added a 3rd sweeping one to break up flow and inteand to add another small one to blow behind the rock so nothing piles up so with just the three power heads a little over 2000 gph flow and the return line is pushing 650 gph and the other power head I will add will be around 450 gph all in a 40B. Sand is staying on the bottom and the few corals in the tank are open and happy.
