toadstools wont open there polps?

have a question regarding my toadstool mushrooms,i had them for over a month and the polps dont seem to open up.i tried placing them in different positions in the tank and still nothing,all the chemistry is perfect
the tank has been set up for over 2 years everything else is fine and spreading .my tank is a 90 gallon with about over a hundred and 30 or more pounds of live rock ,in my refugium i have plenty of macro algae aswell as mongroves,my lighting is a coralife powercompact 260 watt.not sure if you need more info about the tank?if so let me know.

moving such corals is a surefire way of disturbing and stalling polyp extension in some species... thick finger Lobophytons are some of the worst (months)

but inadequate water flow is also a common problem. Too much linear, or not enough overall.

i havent moved them for over 2 weeks i understand they are very finicky with touching them, for the most part when ever i move any corals around i try to pick them up from the base or rock there attached to,as far as water flow i dont have them in direct current cause i know that will hurt them or kill them for that matter.i have the power sheep power head.could it be the lighting?being that there only power compacts.i have them close to the top now when i first got them i put them in the middle then worked my way up to the top so they have more water flow to them then where they where in the middle

Hmmm... have you tried doing/using a DOC test kit? Seek Salifert brand if you need one.

sorry for not responding sooner although i greatly appreciate the help,i use salifert brand test kits now to check for calcium and manganese levels cause i heard they are more accurate than others but never heard of DOC test kits.what does it consist of ?and if it was something with the water wouldnt my other corals be affected?i have a large colt coral in there,a green finger leather ,polps up the wazo ,mushrooms everywhere they all seem to do fine even speading to other rocks?

mo... you must understand my friend that not all corals are even closely related (most are remote) and as such... their tolerances and sensitivities vary greatly! Polyp sensitive species like ;eather corals may be the first to show irritiation.

I'm also wondering if you first aerate, then buffer your RO water without exception before using it for evap or for seawater. If not, you likely have weak alkalinity (under 9dKH). If so... please do check the archives for threads explaining this in greater detail.

never heard of DOC test kits.what does it consist of ?

The organics test kit is new in NA, not many e-tailers sell it as yet... No idea on it's accuracey either. Alternately you can test the <<ORP>>

Hey, I am sorry, I do not have advice for you... But I have the same problem with my toadstools. I have 6 of them in various parts of the tank, and they all closed up at the same time and hardly ever open any more. One of them appears dead. If you find out what caused it, I would love to know (maybe I have the same thing going on).

please do experiment with increased water flow... but avoid linear. Mix it up and try to make it rather turbulent. Inadequate flow is usually a factor with poor polyp extension in Alcyoniids (and many Nephtheids).
