Alright so my torch coral has one arm that is about a foot long. Its twice as long as the others.

What does this mean. Is he unhappy?

is there another coral nearby? It could be trying to sting another coral if its extending towards another coral. How does the rest of the torch look is it still opening and looking like it did before?

its just a sweeper tentacle; my torch, frogspawn, and hammer, all have this longer sweeper and do that. its a defense/offense thing, my hammer's sweeper got so long it stung my acans, so had to move him (the hammer). its perfectly normal.

It's probably "reaching out to touch someone." It either senses another coral, in that direction, or feels it needs to expand, in that direction, and is attempting mortal combat. It will win!!

Here's a picture of my Bubble Coral doing the same thing. This is over about 6".

Somewhere, I have a picture of my torch and RBTA doing battle, each wrapping tentacles around one another.

Yup... it's reaching for something. When mine did that, it was trying to reach a Stylophora that I'm sure it could "smell." Just by chance, I happened to see it finally reach the Stylo... wasn't pretty. Tissue on the Stylo went white almost immediately. Torch is no longer in my tank!

The only thing by it is a mushroom on the rock. . And xynia. its back in now. So we will watch it. It almost reached the power head though. I think the power head will win that battle.

It definitely sounds like it was reaching for either the mushroom or xenia. I would just make sure you leave plenty of space between other corals because the sweepers can reach pretty far.

Torch corals are quite beautiful, but very deadly to anything it can reach (and it will try!). I have lost a couple things to mine. Had some really nice neon green with purple rim ricordia that got barely touched and was stung badly. Infection set in within a day and death was imminent. I cut off the infected area of the last remaining ricordia and chopped it into pieces succeeding in saving a few that are still alive today. Keep it clear of everything else and enjoy it or pass it on to somebody who will.

What happened with the torch RBTA battle? Mine almost did that a few times. I finally moved the torch. Those are some mighty competitors that I didn't want to witness doing battle. Forgot to tell you that my RBTA finally moved.
