trigger issues please help

hey all

I just picked up an undulated trigger and put it in my 55 gal tank and things where good for the first day or so but not any more. He is not eating at all, for the most part he just sits in one corner or the other and when the MH lighting is on he dose not move at all.

I am not sure if the 150 watt MH is too much for him or what the problem is but he is not doing too well and I don't want him to die.

Can anyone help me out?

Triggers are typically very shy, for a long time, when introduced into a new environment. It could take several weeks, before it feels comfortable enough to come out. I'd also suggest that it's in too small of an environment.

It’s a new fish in the tank. May take a while to feel comfy in its new tank. I understand it came form a much smaller tank but a 55 is a bit small for that kind of fish. Just make sure that water parameters are all good and try not to scare it out of its hiding, this would probably just make thins worse. The light has nothing to do with it. I would say for a new fish leave the lights off for a few days and just run the actinic lights for a few days before running them all on. If a fish is all of a sudden out of its environment and then under bright lights it will tend to want to hide.

Hey i just went and looked at the pics from your other thread about other fish to put with him. It looks like the rocks are to close together for him to find a hiding spot for his size. Maybe move then around some to give him bigger openings to go behind them.

I am not sure if I am more worried about him in that small of a tank, or putting your hand in a tank that small with him in there.

he found a good spot in the top corner of the tank by the wave maker and the filter so he is ok there from what I can tell. After seeing a pic of their teeth don't worry I am even more cautious then I was before lol

I just tried to feed him again and that is now 3 days with no eating at all.

I am getting worried

To tempt it to eat, I'd suggest going to the grocery store and buying some clams. Pop them some boiling water, just long enough to open them, cool and drop in the tank. If this doesn't work, you may have to find some live glass shrimp to try.

I went out today and picked up some silversides and some scallops as well. I think those along with the krill I already have should work I hope
