just got mine in the mail today and put it in the sump and turned it on its producing quite a bit of micro bubbles if anyone has used one of these let me know if this is just a normal thing for the breakin period or not

thanks

Dan

There is a break in period, I got both of mine used so didnt have that issue. Try running it in a tub of water with vinegar. Are all the bubbles coming from the riser tube?

Don

yeah it looks like there all coming from the riser...right into my pump and then into the display lol so vinigar is the best bet to speed up the process then? also is there supposed to be water coming out the small hole in the back?

Mine dry, I think thats like a overflow hole. Vinegar will help clean up all the oils that are used in manufacturing the plastic.

how much water do you run it in? right now its in about 8 or so inches not sure if that makes any difference or not...

Mine is about 8 inches. With the tunze its not supposed to matter what the water depth is, thats why the stand pipe is not adjustable. I think its just going to take time to break in.

seems like they might be coming from the bottom also....for some reason it stoped pumping through the outlet and started pumping through the bottom i took it out and made sure everything was in place now it seems to not be doing it anymore but seems to be very intermitant...not what i would expect for almost $400 hopefully once it breaks in it wont be so intermitant is all i can say i guess.

relax, you need to let your skimmer break in....:)
yes, water is suppose to come out of the hole in the back,
the micro's will go away afer a week or so.
it does sound like something funky going on if the water is not going out the outlet riser tube, but instead at the bottom of the skimmer.
are you sure it's put together correctly? if your still having issues by the weekend, you can always bring it to me at BR and i can give it the once over...
these skimmers do kick butt once they are settled in.

yeah i know i pulled it out and made sure everything was tight and the way it was supposed to go now it seems to be working the way it should now just lots of micro bubbles but just have to deal with it for a bit =P

thanks guys for the input

Just a FYI make sure the bottom plate is on flush and secure, sometime the suction cup feet can slide the plate left or right. Also too, maybe play with the little door at the bottom to control the amount of water flowing through the skimmer, this maybe the cause of the micro bubbles.
I'm running a 9010 and a 9015 on a 80g:eek:)

best of luck

IIRC there should be odd shaped little plate behind the door on the bottom.

yeah right now just trying to get the temp down on the tanks...heh g/f left the heater on and went to work....came in and it felt like a sauna
my older tank was at 82 and my new tank at 85

the micro bubbles seem to have started to calm down a little im just going to give it a few days and see if it does anything getting a bit of gunk coming out nuthin real good yet but once its broken in then ill play with it till i get the sweet spot.
