We finally got around to testing the Tunze Salt we brought in. Looks like this is going to be a good salt option. This was mixed with RO/DI water to 1.025. Tests were done with Elos Test Kits.

pH- 8.3
Calcium- 470
dKH- 9.5
Mg- 1350
Phosphate- 0
Nitrate- 0

We are going to run this on the Display/Frag for a while and see how things respond. D-D's salt will still be run on the Elos and Instant Ocean on the fish and coral walls. This will give us different systems to compare the salts.

thanks Cy...It's nice having someone do a comparison on these salts. Too bad there isn't an independent agency that tests all salts and then puts a little label on the bag that tells us what the parameters are when mixed. (like those labels that list how many carbs, fats and proteins).

I finally picked up my green Zoo and bought some other reef inhabitants (crabs, snails) this weekend. Thanks for storing it for me. :)

Wouldn't that be nice! No problem storing. I think we agreed to getting you a few free frags. Just let me know what corals you like in our displays and I'll see what we can do. PM would be best:)

Thought I would add my own test results of the Tunze Reef salt, mixed to 1.025 sg:

Alk..~9 (Elos)
Ca..425 (Elos)
Mg.. 1300 (Elos)
PO4.. 0 (Elos)
K+... 400 (KZ)

I think this is excellent salt, and it mixes up really clean with no residue in the mixing container at all (can't say that about Seachem Reef Salt).

put me down for a bucket when you guys have your anniversary sale. Also, do I have a discount for a tunze 9010 skimmer pump if I do a part order?

sounds great I think I may have to give it a try!!! that only comes out to $20 more than IO at petsmart, but then you have to dump calc and mag in it to get the propper levels...

Thanks

Cy, Chris, et al...

How is the salt comparison going? IIRC, you were using the D-D H2O in the Elos tank, and the Tunze and one other salt on your other systems? I may have these mixed up but would love to hear your observations of how your tanks are looking with these different salts. :)

with all the good reviews thus far, how would one recommend change salt from I/O to Tunze??

my tank only has a rose anenome and a donut coral with one fish.

thanks, just wanted to confirm this was the right way to do it..didnt know if there was some general rule on how to change salts.
