Does anybody have any experience with the Tunze wavemaker box? How would that compare to a couple of powerheads? I have a 180 gallon and am looking at ways to add flow. I don't like the look of powerheads, but will consider them if it is the best option. Also, any other thoughts on powerheads besides Tunze? Any help would be appreciated.

I had 2 Tunzes and loved them. I've got an acrylic tank now so I drilled it. As for the Tunze wavebox, never had any experience with them, but a member here Mike Harrington uses one and I think he is pleased. If you want an alternative route to Tunze powerheads (if a powerhead ends up being your only option and if cost is an issue) then I'd look into the Seio's. Similar design in terms of creating wide gentle flow, more mounting options at a fraction of the price. I had 2 of these as well and was impressed. A 2600 gph Seio will cost you under $70 whereas a 1600 gph Tunze (1000 gph less) will cost you $130 (and that's without the optional magnet mount that runs between $30-40) :)

wave box has three problems I see. better on a 6ft tank than 4 ft. also can break down glass tanks faster, and will make noise because of the inconsistant overflow.

Other than that I can't see a better way to pick up detritus. the videos I have seen look awesome but people out there do use these and streams.

I have a stream 2 seio's and a mj mod on my 75. the stream is the best pump but I wish it was smaller.

I wish I had personal experience with the wavebox. I think it is a really cool device. I have heard the same things that bradreef posted about tank size, and glass. If you do get one, then please post up your experience! They are quite costly, though, as are the Tunze powerheads. However, the powerheads are incredible and, IMO, they are even better when used in conjunction with the controller.

I was thinking of 1 Tunze on a wavemaker and 1 Seio opposite of that to save a little cash. Any opinions?

Could work depending on which Tunze and Seio you go with, but a 180 gal is a pretty big tank and flow could get lost pretty easily in there. I know what you mean about not wanting to see a bunch of powerheads in there. I had (2) Tunzes in my old 75gal and needed a bit more coverage (so I thought) but didn't want to add anymore powerheads so I did a closed loop over the top of the tank and made an acrylic cover to hide the suction. It came out pretty nicely in the end. Here's a link to it incase you haven't seen it and incase it may spark a few ideas. (You'll have to scan through all the chit chat though and look for all the pics throughout the thread to see the changes etc:p ) http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13588 A sea-swirl may be a great option for you as well in conjunction with one of these closed loops to add some random flow in there. Not bulky inside the tank at all:)

I do have a spray bar in the bottom, the tank is 30" tall, 60" long. Not familier with sea swirl, I'll have to research.

Here's a picture of my old 75gal when I first set it up. The nozzle you see in the center of the tank at the top is the output from the sea-swirl and all you will see of it in the tank:)
