Reef Keepers,

I am little confused on whether to keep the light on at night or have it completely dark. I read on some other articles and talked to others, they have different directions.

What is the best way?

Thanks.

A moon light is a good thing to have for part of the night but don't leave your main lights on 24/7 your tanks needs time to rest like everything else that lives

that things that need dark will be angry at you for leaveing your lights on all the time..

get your self a (digital) timer and stick with it..

if you have a sump your lightin on that can be on all the time (witch will help reduce your ph swing) but

the main tank must have some darkness....

and just resonly i swtich from useing my moon lights all the time..

they will be on timeres soon 2

le9569 just think about a reef in the ocean.......there is day and night so it stands to reason the same should happen in your tank.:)

thanks all.
Should moon ligth be a must? Or just leave it complete dark?

Thanks

IMO...this hobby is all about mimicking Mother Nature.....Try to do what happens naturally in a coral reef. Sometimes I even leave the lights off for a whole day out of a week to mimic some natural storm..that blankets daylight out.

Best,
Ilham
