Hi gang,

Can you have a regular green mandarin goby and a Target (aka psychodelic) mandarin in the same tank? I hadn't heard anything to the contrary until today. Not that it makes much difference, but I have a 240g with lots of room, plenty of pods, and lots of LR. will they fight?

Ben

If you have a refugium I think you should be ok..... but in my opinion I think is better to keep only one...
its better to keep one fat dragonet than two skinny ones but just my guess, it would totally depend on the amount of pods in your system.

I bot a second tiny target to go with my large old green. The little guy has grown and chases the larger one all the time whenever they see each other. Plenty of rock and room, so no injury. Vicky recently told me that two will always fight in the same tank. Now she tells me!

got more pods than I know what to do with, so luckly I'm covered there.. but doing some more research in Scott Michael's Marine Fishes book it looks like two males will fight regardless of which type of mandarin goby they are :(:(:(

just an fyi for ya ben........i've mixed them together several times and had few problems. i agree that 2 males regardless of species would be prone to fighting, but with your tank size and availability of food, i doubt you would encounter much of a problem.

Numbers of pods should not be a criteria for your question. They should both have been trained to eat prepared foods.

Two will fight. When they meet up they will 'tussle' to a varying degree. Even though the display tank is large, when they do meet they will not likely play nice. :D

Ben,

The Mandarin I gave you is a confirmed male (see the big spike sticking straight up)

Go get one without the spike and they should pair up.
