I was told that there is a fish store in the U-district somewhere by 65th and Roosevelt I guess. Anyone have any experience with them? Also, is this the right address or somewhere near this? Thanks

Actually, by 65th and Roosevelt is "The Fish Store"
I've bought a couple things there, but it doesn't compare to Saltwater City or Blue Sierra. (To the point where I will happily drive across the water to go to one of the other two.)
Below Sea Level is on 42nd and Brooklyn (or thereabouts). I've never cared for Below Sea Level, their prices seem extremely high, and I never felt the staff was terribly helpful, but I've heard of good experiences there as well.

The fish store is on 67th and roosevelt i believe. Its a pretty pathetic place as far as saltwater. Below sea level is much better Chris the owner is a great guy.

agreed. The fish store is horribly overpriced for most things (try $200-300 for a sickly looking RBTA), there are often dead fish in the tanks, the store smells like mildew and in the few times I have been in there, the staff gives out poor advice like it is candy.
Below sea level is a smaller shop, Chris is a great guy, he gives good advice and will not sell you a fish if it is sick or not behaving correctly. Some of his prices are a bit higher, but his SPS frag prices are reasonable. It is on my way home from the U of Washington so I stop by all the time. Be aware they are closed Mon & Tues to stock new livestock.

Ditto on everything said about "The Fish Store" on Roosevelt.
Below sea level is pretty good. Chris sold me a paired set of Bangaii cardinals for $20 each (tank raised). I thought that was a pretty good deal. He also refused to sell them to me until I got my SG under control. (I had bought a shrimp from him earlier and it passed on because of salinity shock. I didnt drip acclimate him. What a N00bie.) Its cheaper than the "Fish Store" but no better than anywhere else. Its convenient and good to help out a fellow reefer (even if he does it for a living).

the fish store is like one of the LFS that you hear about with animals kept with too little light and poor systems barely surviving. great place for freshwater fish though.
I agree with everything negative said about the Fish Store, Chris at Below Sea Level is a good guy. Iwas their first customer when they opened.

Well a couple weeks back I stopped by the fish store and all the things said above were pretty much true. Tanks were pretty unimpressive. I asked about a gorgonian which had half the tissue left on it to see if I could just get a frag. He said no, and the whole thing was 39.99. I then asked well it only has half the tissue left on it, he said yeah but its still 39.99. LOL. This was pretty humerous to me. I also stopped by below sea level today which is Wed. but they were closed all day (checked twice) and it says on their website as well as the front door they're open today. Anyone know something I don't? Thanks again.

that has happened to me before.. i'm guessing he was busy because he is the only one that works there to my knowledge
he used to be closed every wednesday. With his new hours, he is supposed to be closed mon/tues to acclimate and stock new livestock arrivals, but then open wednesday. Wed are one of the best days to go in and see all the new stuff. Not sure why it was closed, except to say that sometimes chris does shut down if it is slow and he has stuff to do. Doesn't happen that often.

He must have just had stuff to do cause I got there 15min after he should open and then I stopped by again around 4pm. No worries, I'll try tomorrow.
If you are really desperate and frustrated with below sea level being closed, go into the Little Thai restaurant and ask if Chris is available.Sushi Reef said:
Concerning the Fish Store - it is really hit or miss. I have gotten a nice green alveopora there in the past (see avatar to left), but have also been unable to buy kalk. Have gotten nice feather dusters, and seen lots of aiptasia as well. Now I only go there if I am in the neighborhood with some time to kill.

I was burned by the "Fish Store" as a newbie... They highly reccomended the helios T-5's claiming they could keep anything. 8 Helios T-5's over a lil 46gal and a starving BTA later I cut my losses and switched to MH.
I haven't been to the shop in close to 2 years but never bought anything from them anyway because of their pricing...

It is really a pity. When I kept freshwater tanks back in high school, I went to The Fish Store in Bellevue and always thought they were great. It has really gone down hill.
