Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

its wierd but it almost seemed noticable how much everything changed as soon as I plugged it in...I think the coral loves it.....everything blossomed real quickly after I hooked it up.....and I positioned it in the same way everyone recommended....seems to be the best way as far as I can tell.

Im going to do my next weekly water change tomorrow afternoon and then we shall see if the algae has any hope of making a come back...

yeah sherman thanks for the recommendation.....its so nice to have a website like this so that everyone can get whatever info they need.

well I have done another water change, and for the most part everything is much better....The algae still tries to grow however in the stronger current I notice it has a much harder time growing...even the little algae that does grow is easily removed by a quick brush, or stir.....The one thing I am having a hard time with is finding a better place for my toadstool coral since I have the seio in there this is the only coral that is not enjoying the current as much...Im sure that eventually it will get better, but I am trying to find it a better spot for now.....I also have more coral on the way (weeeee!!!) so I will have to mess with it a little more but I think everything is well.....

Sounds great man...Make sure posts some pics of your corals:) About the algae, flow won't completey rid you of them, but it helps. Once there are still excess nutrients in your tank, one algae or another will grow to use it up. Just stay on top of your water changes etc and you should be well on your way:)

The next thing I need is to aquire a protein skimmer....I dont have much room in my nano though especially after the seio pump.....anything you guys can reccomend??? I think if I get a skimmer my water quality will go up dramatically, not that it is bad right now, but it will clear things up much better especailly organic waste, and I think that is the only thing that is actually spurring the algae growth (even if it is a little bit).....let me know what you guys think...

At only 20g, you may get away with heavy water changes, but it's hard to say. I'd still recommend a skimmer. The AquaC Remora has built quite a reputation for being consistent and effective. I use one on my 38g, and have seen them on smaller. I think AquaC also makes a smaller skimmer, which may be worth researching.

where is the best place to check those out...marinedepot??? it might just be time to upgrade to a little bigger tank....like a 29 Gal maybe I dont know we will see, Ill have to do some research.

yeah I will have to seriously consider those skimmers....they look like they would be the best for my situation, but I am still gonna check out some others....I like the way those remora skimmers are set up though......very tempting

yeah I kinda like those aquapods....they are pretty neat I was origionally going to get one before I realized that the nano I have now was going to be mine...

Well everyone my algae bloom is dwindling away thanks to all your help... I am keepin up on the weekly water change and that has helped squash the problem, besides the seio....I have taken some pictures and will try to post them as soon as I get them on my computer.

well here are some pics....they arent the greatest, and thats because they came from my camara on my cellphone so....I hope they are good enough for now until I can get my hands on a digital camera...
