Getting ready to dose interceptor, I have no crabs but am concerned for my longspine urchin. Anyone know if he needs to come out.

Thanks folks, we'll see what happens. I assume I should have the skimmer off. How much of a water change should I do after the 6 hours.

Yeah Don, the skimmer is off during the 6 hours, and take out what other types of filtration you have. Do your 25% change, and then fire everything up again!!:D

Actually, you want water running thru the skimmer, just not have the skimmer producing any bubbles. Here's a quote from the "Cure" that Dustin put out (link is in Post #1 of the thread I posted earlier). I would read through the cure to get a handle on what the original plan was.

Before adding the medication to your tank, turn off your skimmer (water needs to run through it, but you do not want it producing any bubbles. Remove any mechanical filtration if present. Remove any carbon if present. Turn off UV sterilizers and ozone generators.

Hope this helps.

That is a good point Nikki, I missed that one. Hopefully, Don did a little reading before treating.
We should be hearing from him this AM, so we'll find out how things went!!

Thanks, It went fine. As far as I can tell all the bugs are gone. I do just just the air intake off to my skimmer. Lost only two acro crabs and a bunch of little stars.

Are you gonna wait a week, or how are you going to proceed? I am glad things went well for you, it is a big hassle, isn't it?

I'll wait till thurs or fri. The biggest problem is getting the stuff. The treatment was the easy part. I know there are laws regarding drugs, but vets act like your using it to make crack or something.

Yeah, I guess I got lucky. I sent my vet some pics of the tank along with the interceptor thread. I have been goin to the same vet for close to 30 years, so maybe they gave me a break.

Oooh - that reminds me:
Does anyone have any interceptor to spare? Since I will be treating a 10G QT, I presume I will only need 1 tab which will need to be divided many times?

The dosage used in an aquarium to kill redbugs is 25mg (0.025 grams) per 10 gallons of actual tank water . That is 25mg of the entire tablet. Each tablet in the pack of 6 will treat about 380 gallons. The tablets are ground with a mortar and pestle into a fine powder.

Am I getting this right?
