Does anyone in our area have an urchin they would consider loaning us for a few weeks? Have a bad algae problem Im working on. I had one, but sold it back to Barbie since it kept knocking things over in my 30 gal.

After testing and talking with her more, I think its my old bulbs causing alot of the problem.

You can borrow my long spine if you want :D

I can take him along to the meeting if you are planning to be there - he does eat the new growth offa SPS - but is totally safe with anything else

If you think he would fit in my 30 (techically 29 high)?? Some of the long spine ones look so big!

I will be at the meeting. :D I only have zoa's and xenia
and my fish.

Lolz - well he's been grounded to the 10 gal QT tank now for about 6 months... I'm sure he'd think a 30 gallon is a mansion

I give him haircuts sometimes and cut his spines down - doesn't like it much, but he has nowhere to run

I'll do a w/c tomorrow and bring him in a bucket to the meeting and we can see where we go from there!

Sounds great, Im sure he will do fine. Lots to eat, he will be in heaven for awhile:badgrin:

I made a note to bring a bucket for him, getting some chaeto too.
Think he will stay warm enough? I can bring a bottle of hot water too.

 I know.. doesnt that sound scary!! She is brave!

Id worry too that a fish would get stuck on it! Does that every happen?

Nah - never, although he did corner this lil clown I stuck in the 10 gallon right after I put him in cuz the clown was too retarded to swim down to get out of the urchins way as he was cleaning the glass -

Fish will just swim around between his spines or stay clear - no biggie :)

It's funny how fast the urchin moves when I come at him with the scissors - never thought they were fast moving critters til I had to trim his spines down so he didnt take up the whole 10 gallon!! lol

Well he made it to my tank safe and sound! Seems to be doing fine. He has one rock scraped clean in a few spots.
My cardinal fish seems to like him alot, hanging out with him.

Haha - awesome!! I've read that some cardinals actually kind of "host" between the spines of the long spine urchins for shelter in the wild :eek2:

I read that too, "Dash" (kids named my cardinal) seems protective of the urchin now.. chases the clowns away from it if they get too near.
I threatened the urchin with a hair cut, so now he is up on a rock doing his job!
