Hello, I am almost finished with my last bucket of Seachem Reef salt and was wondering if anyone here has switched to something else from Seachem Reef. So far, I am pretty happy with the result form this salt and I know some people will tell me why change something if it's not broken. I am just curious to see if there might be a benefit from switching.

Thanks,

HT

I have used the Instant Ocean with good results. I heard the Tunze salt is supposed to be really good as well though.

If you are happy with everything, don't switch.
There are too many other things that can bring on a headache.
IMO, there is no benefit, if things are good.

I'm the same way with IO.

There is a thread on RC that some guy did that has all the info on all the salt CAL, MAG, ALK, PH everything.

I have used IO since i set my tank up about 1 1/2 ago and havent had a problem.

I've used IO for many many years but after talking to a local about her reactions to tunze I have thought about switching once I kill my 1.5 buckets of IO that I have left.

Hey Tom

What have you heard about the Tunze? I am trying to collect as many reports as I can before switching. Especially since I am nearly out of salt.

I use Brightwell NeoMarine salt and couldn't be happier. I switched from IO and i could tell a difference on the growth rate, but I also don't does anything but kalk. I didn't have a problem with IO, just wanted to try this stuff out. If your ordering online, http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/index.web is running cheap shipping right now, even for over weight items, like salt.

The report I got about the new tunze salt was from someone who switched from IO and they found their corals to have better color, growth and polyp extension. As well as the water mixed up faster and had to use less additives. Thats why I plan on looking into it further when I'm getting ready for the switch as it seems like a pretty good trade off for the salt being ~$55 for 126g worth.

Thanks everyone for replying. I'd used IO, Kent and RC in the past but since my tank became SPS dominant, I switched to Seachem Reef. Only thing that bothers me about the Seachem Reef is that I have to dose Alk everyday but I am sure that other salt would be the same.

You are very correct. There isnt a salt on the market that is going to help you there.

Basically you have four or five choices now, as your corals start growing and demanding more additives.

1. keep dosing as you are doing
2. automate your dosing with pumps
3 Top off with manually Kalk
4. automate your top off with kalk
5.Install a calcium reactor

Yes, there are more choices but these are the basics.
