Our Crocea clam was attached firmly on a ledge (for best lighting) and was doing well..til it inched closer and closer to the edge..we couldn't move it for it was attached and we didn't want to tear its byssal? Well sometime this morning it detached and fell..I can see frayed stuff on its old rock..

Its on its side in the sand..and attaching/attached to another rock..how can I get it upright? w/o hurting it??

Please help!!

You can cut the byssal strands with a razor blade, actually. Be careful, and cut as far away from the clam and close to the rock as possible.

He only had a strand on the other rock..more for reassurance it seemed...the hubby turned it upright it came right off for him :) He's now nestled in the sand! Seems to be doin ok..very reactive to movement/light thanks guys!

Cool deal. Don't forget that croceas and maximas need a rock to anchor onto, though. A very common practice is to put a rock just under the sand. Some have even used something flat like a piece of tile or another half of a clam shell, so they get something flatter.
