If you only have 2", I wouldn't add any more water. How much room is there when the pumps are on?

When the display tank floods, the drain can't handle the amount the pump adds to the display, the pump is too big.

up date, i went back to my eariler setup with the durso stand pipe, added a shutoff after the pump dumped it back into the sump, adjusted flo that way less strain on the pump... all levels great,and quiet

yes it did fix the issue, now my ? is with the return pump off and the tank settles i still have plenty of room in the sump, do i need to add mor water

Ain't really matter the level of water in your sump, unless:
- it floods your sump in PUMP OFF mode
- You have equipment that require a certain water level (like my HOB skimmer setup in the sump, I have to keep some part of my sump to a certain level for the skimmer water intake.)

IMO, that more the better in case evaporation go fast and run your pump dry. Auto top off would be ideal, but I have a some sump "20GAL" and no room for that...
