I'm having the same problems with my 30-gal tank with 5-gal refugium. I figured the combined knowledge of the people here is better than any knowledge from a salesman at my lfs. I am doing 25% weekly water changes with RO water and will be going to RO/DI by my next change. I removed one of the bio-wheels from my Emperor 400 this past weekend and cut my feedings back to every other day. I will monitor my tank for ammonia spikes and hopefully a decrease in my nitrates. As long as my ammonia remains down I plan on removing the second bio-wheel in about 2-3 weeks. I'll keep you informed of my progress!!!
