water tests

Which is the best water test kit out there on the market? something that is still easy to use and gives you the best readings on what in the world is happening in your tank. just wanted to know before I went and bothered Kevin. any tips are greatly appreciated. Jim

For the money salifert can not be beat. Accurate and easy to use.

Go bother Kevin. While you're there, pick up some Salifert test kits. They're great!! He's been out of Mg for awhile. Let me know if he's got any in...lol.

Wow, you guys are out of Mg kits too--I thought it was just the Eastside!! (Haven't seen a Mg kit at BR, or BlueSierra in ages...)

Finally found one at SWC--but apparently they were so scarse that they had to pack it in a different box!
(So my "Mg text kit" is a Salifert Cu test box with Mg reagents inside....)


Has anyone tried the Elos kits yet?? (Saw all those shiny silver boxes at BR.....)

My Sailfert Mg kit came in a pH labeled box with an Mg sticker on it.

I have tried the ELOS pH kit and can't say I prefer it over the Sailfert but I haven't tried any other ELOS. I use exclusively Sailfert for all my testing.

jungle dip strips

If you want easy and acurate get some dip strips by jungle ,tells you ph,alk,nitrates and nitrites in seconds

I have used the strips and definitely question their reliability. They're also not going to show you actual numbers. They give you a general "good to bad" result instead of PPM. I've also noticed strips giving me somewhat different results of the same test taken within 5 minutes of each other in the same tank.

I vote for Salifert as well...Very easy to use and haven't had any issues at all with it
