All,

I am looking for some resources and advice on setting up my web page.

I'm thinking of the following:

Register a domain
Find a service to host my domain. I don't want the advertising and popups so I'm going to pay for the service.

I have an AquaController II which I have setup to run web enabled. I would like a way to update the hosted web page with the AC II data so that I don't expose my home computer to the internet.

Any help, hints, resources is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ted

I think this should go in the Water Fountain or Tech forums? I don't know much about setting up websites though.

I run my own servers, so my perspective is a little different, but from talking to my friends, dreamhost is apparently one of the better inexpensive web hosting companies right now. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I believe they will pass through the domain registration for you, so you can do it through them (most webhosts will do this, but its important to make sure you are the domain owner, NOT the hosting company)

Otherwise, GoDaddy.com is my current reccomendation for a domain registrar. You'll want to know the approriate info from whatever webhost you settle on before you register the domain however.

For Domain Registrar I like BUy Domains.com

If you have a High speed at the house - Windows XP has a web server built into it - And you could host your own at home.

Since you need a computer on for the ACII to connect to, and it has to send the info to the main server.

For hosting companies try 1and1 / POWWEB.

If you host from home lanechange.net has some good DNS hosting packages.

Whatever you do, do NOT get Bitstreamhosting.com to host your site. Their service sucks royally. Right now they have randomly decided to disable my domain registration and won't put it back up...

Oh yea. Make sure you can find a mailing address for the webhosting company, in the US. Otherwise they can take your money and run. You can't do anything. Also do not pay through paypal. You only have a 30 day period that you can contest payment. Credit cards usually give you 60 from the day you receive your initial statement with the charge in question. You might want to double check that you can find the company with the Better Business Bureau.

Ted why dont you take a peek at our premium membership. I think would could help each other out.

I'm with Mojo on this one unless you really want your own domain.
RF will give you a ~username web space. There are plenty of automated FTP client programs that you can schedule. This way you are just update the controller data file to the server when ever you want.
