What to do about Hard Water.

I tested my water and found out that it is very hard. The alkalinity was perfect and all of my levels are fine but the water is very hard. How do I soften it?

Beckmola24 - Welcome to Reef Frontiers!

If you are talking about tap water, the best thing you can do is get RO/DI water. This way, all the impurities are stripped out.

Does this help?

Sea water is supposed to be very hard. The object is usually to shove as much calcium as you can into the water for the corals to use. Hardness is not something that we test for on a reef tank.

I think you may be trying to bring over something from fresh water aquaria keeping that has no bearing in marine.

Thanks! I has a test strip for salt or fresh and it had the water hardness test on the same strip as the alkalinity. I couldn't find any other alk test and I wanted to make sure that it was accurate. Thanks again!
