So the lighting is done.

This is the lights in the lid I strapped them onto a board to add more stability.

Wires ran through the lid to kind of hide everything.

Now all I need to do is drill the bottom out and get the screen. Thanks to Todd also for barely surviving a friday night at JoAnnes fine fabric for me. You rock dude.

Sorry guys, I have been busy. So I was trying to find a way to get to Anacortes to see Todd's friend (Sorry can't remember your name) to pick up the material. In the mean time I tried to use window screen but quickly realized that it has an anti fungal spray and really didn't want to risk it in the tank. So back to square one. Then I found out that the pump I have is way under powered. Todd said that he didn't want to hear about my undersized plumbing problems. So I need to find a bigger pump. As of right now the thing is running and starting to grow but I fear it is not enough. I will post some pictures tomorrow.

Hahaha! His name is Colin :)
I'll try to get the pump out to his house as well.
Where are the pictures???

Hey Floyd this is Colin (Todd's friend) I'm free most days in the afternoon/evening and I could come to oak harbor if you wanted, it's really only a 30-35min drive. Plus it would be a good excuse to see your tank. Let me know, I think Todd gave you my cell number, if not PM me and I'll give it to you and we can work something out.

Colin

That's it, his name was Colin. I just remembered it. Do you guys buy it, Cooking dinner and then I will post some pictures. Colin you are always welcome to stop by.

It definately needs more flow. I just cant seem to cover the entire area. I am sure this would have worked better with just the one pipe and the 2 lights on either side.

Colin,

Hey thanks for dropping that off at Justin's. I was able to pick it up today. You are welcome to come by when ever you are in town.

haha

sorry to delay the thread.....do many of u guys talk to ur hardware shop employees ( the ones that look knowledgeable) they dont ever have any of the fittings ur looking for (my case) but they are very good about trying to help u out if you try and go to the same clerk(i find myself going to the store around the same time on the same days) so where i work atleast if your a customer and you go to the same employee everytime you will get some very good help (like where you can find a 1.5" male thread by 2" female slip street 90 ......yea talk about a hard piece to find when u have no room for more pieces ...

So a little research and I found out that it is used on a large scale to purify water at water treatment plants. I also found this site and it talks about how good such a scrubber is.

HydroMentia Water Treatment Technologies > Services > Algal Turf Scrubber

So I know that this horse has probably been beaten a few times over, but not by this guy. So I am about to embark on another adventure that will more then likely have be making several unnecessary trips to Home Depot, at which time the store clerks will make funny comments about the "Fish Guy" and how I should own half of the PVC section.

u know todd likes nothing better then sitting down in a knitting circle and talk about how cold the winter is this year lol

I dont know if I'm allowed to put a link to another forum on here but I have read a really good post on turf scrubbers. It was started in 2008 and still going. Some good info that might help you. If you're interested let me know and I'll PM you a link. Unless I can put it here for all to see.

I have read through several forums on it. There is one from a South African Club that is just crazy. And apparently there is a guy out there from Santa Monica that is making all of this commercial. He has some pretty sick over sump setups that he is selling.

Santa Monica is the guy I was refering to. Lots of good info that fella can give on scrubbers.

So just a little update. No turf is growing just yet. There is an amazing hair algea growth on the screen, but still too new to be anything useful. I will post some pictures of it here in a little while. Parameters were all reading good before the addition of the scrubber, with spots of algea in the main tank. Now the algea in the main tank is slowly starting to dissapear. Not sure if this is because of the natural cycle or because I have the scrubber on it. I think I should have taken a more scientific approach to this. Because I have the feed pump to the scrubber after my overflow, and refugium, but before the skimmer, and sump.
