I was wanting to know what I can get for my clown to host? I know that a clown doesn't need to host anything for it to survive but I thought it would be cool if it had something. I don't want anenome's. Is there anything else clowns will host that aren't as tricky to take care of? Thanks

I have had my clowns host in Powerhead streams and Euphyllia corals.. They really can associate themselves with almost anything. Although, even if you had an anemone, sometimes they wont even host in that.

Hey Salty, great looking base rock:D
Hope all is going well, thanks for the referral to this site, I absolutely love it!!!
Revitalized me as a reefer:D

Clowns can host all kinds of parasites, not so sure what will host them besides anemones. Have had them in all types from carpets, sebaes, bulbs, even condys. Have heard of elegance coral with clowns too.

Best with all,

they also can host xenias, frogspawn, torches, mushrooms, leather corals, i've seen some hosting elegance corals.
just make sure that whatever you are gonna get for the clown is gonna do fine in your tank.

I have personally had them host in a colt, giant mushroom, spotted mushroom colony, and of course anemones.

my lfs owner has a pair of yellow striped maroon clowns...i hardly ever see them come away from his toadstool leather that is in the tank....i was hoping my clowns would take to my leathers, but they didn't

I've had singles and pairs host in those bleached barnacle clusters from petco, large conch shells from walmart

I know I'm being picky, but for clarification, clownfishes do not 'host'. It is the anemone, coral, pot, vase that 'hosts' the clowns.

Even I get confused, too. ;)

Best,
Ilham :)

Man Elmo you beat me I was just going to say that (I learned that finallly)! I was also going to say I was at my daughter's doctor's office on Friday for yet another childhood injury and they have a large FO tank and there was a hugeeee shell with a teeny clown face peaking out of it. It was the cutest thing we ever saw.

I've had a Maroon that used a Frogspawn and a rock covered in Green Hairy Mushrooms as a host until I introduced a RBTA. While using the Frogspawn and Hairy Mushroom, the Maroon defended them with a vengeance and was constantly cleaning and rubbing on them. I've also had a Percula use Hairy Mushrooms, Xenia, the back side of a powerhead and of all things, the internal half of a magnetic algae scraper!!
