I have set up a 75 gallon tank about a week ago. I got it from a friend that had it but while he was gone he had a power suge and all his fish died. I got the tank and now i have it . It has about 100 pounds of LR and i am not sure about the san but it is about anywhere from 3-4 in. I added some snails and hermit crabs a couple of days ago. I use a 20 gal sump for the filter and 1 skimmer in the sump and 1 that hangs on the back. I have 2-250 watt medal halides and a 96 watt floresent light that is bluish puple. The tank has seemed to cycled already. Now i need help in choosing some corals and when i should add them. Any advice on the tank would be appreiciated.

When his fish died it surely added a ton of pollutants to the tank. Make sure your water parameters test ok before adding anything to the tank.

Slow down!!!!!!!!!!
Make sure you are cycled. Test ammonia, nitrites and nitrates every day for a week aleast all should be 0. If not do not add anything yill they are. Go to new to reefkeeeping and read some of the stickies. If it is not cycled and you start add things you start killing things.

You are off to a good start you found this place. There alot help available to you here.

also is it better to have the live rock up against the back wall or to have it all in the middle?

You want to have it away from the back so you can water flow around the rock to move the waste away. If not you are creating a dead spot that will cause nitrates.
