So befor I start a thread in the build forum I got a little more research to do
What would you all say would be a GOOD pump for my closed loop?
I was thinking a hammer head its 6000GPH at 0 head
Would this be enough for my 125 pininnsula tank?
I will have a mag 9 return from my sump also so about 600 gph from that also
That only brings me to about 50x turnover in my display
What do you think
or should I go with two hammerheads and one return?
someone help me please so I can get started on the build thread and start building the stand.
Mostly gonna be softies and LPS

i would set it up for 2 pumps that way you have a little more control over your flow. for example i have 2 ampmaster 3000 1 running across the top and one on the bottom. i would like to have alot more flow on the bottom and i can do so by changing the pump with out affecting the flow up top as well

so one pump bottom and one pump for the top?
That might work good!
Now I have to figure out how "i want the top CL to be desighned?

Oh great, now back to the drawing board. Jk

or you could use a motorized bal valve to switch the flow from loop to loop that would give you 6000 gph at the top for a specified amount of time then it switches to the other side for a specific amount of time basicaly like to pumps on a wave maker but with just one pump. i wanted to do this but i already had two pumps and didn't want to shell out 400 bucks for the valve

HI MYTRRMOUSE,

CURIOUS Y A MAG 9 FOR RETURN? AND A HAMMERHEAD FOR CL? Y NOT 2
REEFLO DARTS? 3600 EACH YOU HAVE MORE CON TROL OVER ALL YOUR RETURNS, HOW MANY RETURN EXITS WILL YOU HAVE? YOU CAN CONTROL THEM WITH LOC LINE VALVES, JUST AN IDEA.

I HAVE A 600GAL WITH A BARRACUDA PUMP I HAVE PLENTY FLOW TANK DIM ARE 105L x 40w x 30H I HAVE 5 RETURNS IM GETTING BOUT 2900-31000GPH OF FLOW.

in my opinion that is totally the way to go, but the valves are so spendy. i basically to nikkis plumbing design on the tank design forum and copied that but instead of a ball valve i used a second pump. i think with the mbv i would have had more random flow

I havent made a desision yet thats why I posted this thread!
I needd help!
First big tank And still learning??
Always open for help and input

Return exits two for the sump behind overflow and two for the closed loop in front of the overflow in main tank prolly 1" for sump and 1 1/2" for cloosed loop?
Don't know sizes yet trying get things figured befor I have them drilled??But wouldn't that be tooo much flow through the sump/fuge?????
3600 GPH?
wow?
I'm proly just confused by your post?

60 inches but water in only 54" 6" for coast to coast overflow
24"wide and 20"tall

Next question, did you decide on using a device in the flow to switch it like the OM or MBV? This is important, also your goals here, long term?
BB or sb?
how much rocks do you plan to have?
how much room do you have for plumbing?
one large pump running 24/7 will consume more power than all your lights together! so make sure you have plenty of monies for electrical outlets on separated circuits & paying the billz!;)

Heres what i got so far for the bottom part of the closed loop and the return for the sump

Ok sorry maybe i should of ask if your sump and refuge are all in one or they separate? Seq pumps are very low power consumption i think my barracuda is bout 280w, if your sump and refuge are all in one, then yes i prob just use use one big pump, but a hammerhead will be way too much fish wouldnt be able to swim.

So what pump then?
I'm just wanting enough flow for the LPS
Thats why I'm here my friends. To learn
a "seq pump" is what now??

Sequence pump, such as the Dart, Barracuda, or the Hammerhead! :D
Answer my questions & we can help narrow down the right pump & size!

ohh sorry mean "sequence" pumps, pumps like hammerhead , darts, barracuda.

Is your sump/refuge the same ? Or are they separate?

If you have room i would separte them one sump and one reguge

i think you wouldn't need a pump higher than a dart(3600gph) pump imo. If you gonna use one cl pump.

On the other hand you can rum total of 3 pumps(one return, 2 cl)

return pump i prob use mag 12, the cl pumps yu can use low gph pump like 2 1500-1800gph .

Do you have a plubming design yet? It might make a diff on what pumps to use.

a 4 way OM
125-150lbs rock
SB
42" high stand with 18" high sump
three seperate 20amp breakers for the system

We can figure out if you have enough juice, which you should have plenty i run my 600gal on 2 20amp i used to have 3 1000w halides 3 pumps.

Tell us what light you gonna use? Chiller? Heaters? Etc.. Etc?
