I keep trimming my chaeto and it seems a waste to just throw it away. Is it still good to just give it to other fellow reefers, I hate wasting stuff.

Hey Earl, what's happening, have some chaeto and caulerpa in my fuge and somehow only caulerpa seems to be growing like crazy all the time, I wonder if I remove caulerpa so my chaeto can grow more, how is the little bugger doing ? Is he behaving ?

+1 I used to sell for cheap or givr away calupra and flame algae.
Now my fuges r dark with only rock.

He is doing just fine. He is in love with the frogspawn, he sleeps in it, spends almost all day in it. The rest of the time he is with the other clown and they seem to be best friends. One thing that has been very good, is since he went into the tank, I see the other a lot more. He hangs out with the little one and 90% of the time he/she is with the little one. I am very happy.
What I need to know is can you give it to someone else, is it okay. It grows like crazy in my fuge.

You should be able to sell it to other reefers, it is in demand. The only think that would be not good is if there were hitchhikers like pest anemones in it but its pretty easy to prevent that.

I really don't want to sell it. The original ball I received was from rainydave and I figure I could just help someone out. I pretty sure that there are no pests. It has been in my sump for well over 2 years. The only think that might be in there would be some pods and brittlestars. Since it is supposed to be sucking up nitrates and you trim to discard the nitrate filled branches, I didn't know if it would be healthy for another system to get a ball of it in theirs.

Awsome, that's very generous of you. You should have an easy time giving it away. I'd take some even.

You are welcome to some. I live in The Hampton's Apartments, directly across the street from Group Health. 270 Bronson Way NE, Apt. 26. Renton

hey Earl, so is Cheato the only plant you have in your fuge ? if so maybe i should do the same thing, i have read that Caulerpa can go crazy sometimes and mine grows really fast

It's the only thing except for that red algae you gave me. That chaeto is growing like crazy.

Do you have to keep the cheato seperate in the tank? IF not, I could use some. maybe I can put it in a mesh bag and just drop it in my sump.

I keep it in my sump. If you put it in a mesh bag you would have to make sure it would be big enough to allow it to grow and make sure it would get enough light. If it is a fine mesh it probably wouldn't work. You have a sump don't you?

I wouldnt put it in a bag. You want it to tumble around. And it's not invasive, if some gets into your display it won't take over. You can just remove it. And Earl yes giving it away is a great idea as long as your tank in pest free:)

Yes Paul, it is pest free, just some brittle stars and bristle worms but they are mostly in the main tank. I do have stars in the fuge cause I put them there when I cleaned out the sock.

Brittle stars are great:) I even collect them for my Coldwater tanks too. They are important members of any cuc.
