What type of chiller do you use? Inline or drop in.

Until recently, I was unaware that drop-in chillers were made for larger than nano tanks. Please post what type of chiller you use, brand name if you have an opinion about it with likes & dislikes.

I like Pacific Coast Imports for my chiller... Yes I am a bit bias as they are 15-20mins away from me But I like the Idea that If something goes wrong I can pull the chiller off the system and run right over there... It works Extremely well... And so far just a few minor issues that were resolved the same day... All in all I really like the Ease of Use and having the built in controller on it... The chiller might be a bit overrated for my tank But Since I plan to upgrade in the future to a larger tank I bought the chiller wiht that in mind...

Pacific Coast Imports lowest cost great reliability I have had two cl-280 cl-650

John, are you chillers quiet? I am trying to decide if mine is quiet or not... Mine is much larger than your 2 but do yours seem like they get considerably louder.. I mean compare to some that I have seen mine is extremely quiet but I have nothing to really compare it to... FWIW mine is the CL-050 1/2hp model... It is going to be moved outside in my storage shed since I just got permission to drill thru my Apartment wall to locate the chiller in the outside closet LOL... It heats the house way too much... when Its 50F outside my house is 75F with the doors open..

Pacific Coast cl-280 on a 65g with 20g sump and Halides. Extremely quiet. Can only hear it if I am on all fours right next to it. I hear the MAG 7 mounted externally more than the chiller. I run it in-line in a closed loop circulation thru a SCWD.

I have an in-line Aqualogic chiller 1/3 HP on my 135g and it is so awesome. It sits right near the living room couch and is very quiet. You might notice it come on every once in a while, but for the most part when it turns on, you don't notice it at all.

The Pacific Coast CL-650 is a bit noisy but not as bad as 1/2 hp model

Ive got a pair of older aquanetics 1/5HP. I had to plumb them into the garage because of the noise and they will only drop my 210 (320g total water volume) about 4 degrees, but its enough to get the temp into the right zone- max of ~81F

I have a drop in chiller. Its a little noisy but I gess its because my tank is so quiet. Im surprised that so many people aren't using a chiller. I went with the drop in chiller over the inline because I felt the inline would slow the flow down on the return. My chiller is a 3/4 Hp (forgot the company!) I got this one with the plan of moving it to a bigger tank one day. It works great! temp at 76 all the time with a one degree difference.

I hope to get a chiller one day. I do not have enough space right now. I am partial to drop in chillers just because I do not plumb :D.

Frankie, how large is your tank?

Yep.. even in Washington you need a chiller. My life was H - E - double hockey sticks before i got one. i went with an inline pacific coasts chiller and it's done me well for the last couple summers.

Wow. seems class clown has dug up all my old posts because i was slammed with e-mail today from here.
I have since got rid of that chiller and replaced it with a current tower 1/3 hp. The drop in made to much noise and also had an issue with condensation getting on the floor. This new one is quiet enough and is dry as a bone.

no chiller,

I loose enough heat thru my overflow/sump

my heaters aren't on a whole lot, but no chiller needed.

In-lines

I went with a Current USA's Prime Aquarium Chiller I liked it so much bought a 1/3 hp for a 150 gallon tank and I bought a second 1/4 hp for a 75 gallon tank these chillers are now on their 3+ year of use with no problems just clean the grill 2 times a year! What I liked about them
is they are the world’s first to offer a heater and ultraviolet sterilizer as modular upgrades. The Prime ships standard with the water chiller feature and ports for both ultraviolet sterilizer and heater upgrades. Integrate the elements you need and leave out the ones you don’t, for a single system that will help stabilize things, both in and around your tank
This allowed me to run UV and not a heater on both of mine...
