I want to hear what is on the bottom of everyones tanks. DSB, SSB, BB or other. I have a shallow sand bed that in places has been blow almost to the glass and in others is 2-3" thick. I like the look of the little "dunes" that mycirculation pumps make but have had some probs with cyano around the base of some rock caves. Lemme hear what you got!!

I started off with 1/2 LS and have been slowly sucking it out. Starting at the front and working my way back as the coraline covers the bare spots. In a few more months it should be all BB.
I thought this would help in cycling the tank, I'm not sure it did anything but create more work myself.

very little sand in mine with lots of BB showing. Just like the look of the sand and the reflective properties to get the corals some light on the underside.

Three frickles, a pimple.....

LMAO

shallow sand bed here, if I can figure out how to get Chuck to come down to florida, I will set up my bottom like his, on my next reef.

SSB on all three, and probably will be the same on the 4th when it gets going.

I like the look of sand, as opposed to BB, but I understand some of the complaints. I have a wonderful Dragon Gobie which keeps the sand clean and stirred up, but I also have to be careful where I put things and watch to be sure they don't get covered up by the "sand storm" he makes on a regular basis.

Being there was no “Plenum” option I voted other! I have a 1-1/2” dead water space made with PVC Pipe egg crate & window screening, 3” of crushed coral on top of that, Followed by a 2” top layer of course (1~2 mm size) reef sand with screening in-between the crushed coral & course sand.
