What's the best way to get rid of mushrooms?

Do shrooms need light? I read a great way to get rid of star polyps online somewhere that could work if they need light...

For polyps:
Get some half clam shells (or oyster or whatever) and glue them over the polyps with a bit of frag glue. No more light, no more polyps. Once they are dead, move the shell to a new place, rinse and repeat...
