Use to have a black painted background because it just looked cool
Then I started reading about others and their findings, that backgrounds really affect the light no matter what color. I scraped it all off.
I found the benefits on not having a background were better colored corals and more natural growth patterns. Also the aquarium was more pleasing to the eye without the background.

Glass with a black stick on. We decided to let the Pink/Purple Coralline Algae cover the back about two years ago.
