As part of the research into starting a tank again someday, I'm looking at the option of starting the tank with mostly base rock with some live rock and live sand to seed it. I like the idea of not pulling rock out of the ocean, just as I want to focus on aquacultured and fragged corals and captive bred fish. Aquacultured LR is fairly pricey, but is one good option.

I've looked at Marco Rocks, which has great looking dead rock. It's hard to cal it base rock because it looks really nice, but it's almost as expensive as the cheaper LR out there. It seems like there has to be some semi-local sources of decent base rock.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Josh

What price are you looking for? You can get LR delivered to your door for about $5.00/lb

Yes, that's true. I've actually found haitian live rock for around $3/lb. I'm looking more for dead rock, or mined rock that wouldn't need to be shipped and could be bought in the 300-400 pound range.

Thanks!

Josh
