Which RO/DI Unit to buy?

I guess the ultimately the original question has to be asked. Is it worth it to get the more expensive brand name units?

Well if you get your water from Seattle then I would agree with "dnjan"

You might want to borrow a TDS meter and check your water before spending lots of money on a RO/DI unit. My water (Seattle, U-district) generally runs about 30PPM straight out of the tap. I get down to 0 to 1 with just RO.

I came up with this Water Report from Seattle! And your water there looks great! In your case even the cheap e-bay units would probably work great!

Wow! This is great news! I think it's finally clicking. I'm sorry that I've been so thick about it. As for which unit I should get, there are I believe 4 models he has on ebay right now. One of them is listed as for "aquarium" use. Am I to assume that's the one I want to order?

the maxximus is the way to go, Its even nicer than the one I got, (no drinking water faucet and tank) great price. You shouldnt need the pump, everybody tries to sell them to you, and decide where you want to hook it up. I put mine in the garage next to the washer so I had to ask for the FAUCET ADAPTER instead of the line piercing adapter (same price) and I just run my waste water down the washer drain when I have enough for plants and such and the like. The extra filter packs are worth getting he will sell them for cheaper when you buy the unit and ship cheaper too. They will send you a e-mail with instructions and if you have a question he will answer or if a weekend or night pm me and I will give my # or post photos what ever you need. Correction, I had to get the HOSE adapter not the faucet adapter, and The second one you posted looks good as well by that I mean the one in the second posting, not the second one in the first post. LOL Steve

here is mine in my needing painted garage. LOL it empties to a 44 gallon rubbermaid brute container, Make sure you get the float valve too or order one from marine depot (kent makes a good one)

Well. since I am moving in the near future, should I get the faucet adapter as well? I don't like the idea of piercing into the water line. Stiil a plumbing novice. I don't have as much space as everyone else may have. 570 sq. foot of living space! We'll probably try and find room under the bathroom sink.

Is the PSI meter worth it? Do you know of how the TDS meter is? Are they all essentially the same? Sorry about all the questions, but I am getting pretty close to hitting that buy it now option!

the psi meter is nice from what I hear I dont have one so I cant advise you there. The tds meter I got was 11.00 from thesilvergenie on ebay and works great, 3 day delivery
You could probley get it cheaper if you are not going to put it in the kitchen and use the drinking water faucet and storage tank I think its less than 90$ check the rest of his auctions you should find the reef set 6 stage and without all the other stuff. I mean if its in the bathroom and your moving I dont see you running the drinking water stuff, but if your moving to a home and want to hook that up later it will be fine to have it. Those tanks usually sell at lowes and marine depot for 80-100$ by themselves

if you pierce the copper line under the sink and move you just screw the valve closed and it seals you just buy a new at lowes and move it that way, if its pvc its harder to do and you may need the faucet adapter, though the down side is I hear they can be a pain and do get in the way. I mean who wants a line running from the middle of the sink under the sink and to a ro unit. LOL. If you have a washer hook up Its the way to go for me. If not and you have copper pipe the piercing valve works good. they seal up easy, (thats how ice makers get thier water) they are everywhere. If pvc you turn off the water cut the line put in a T with a female pipe thread and adapt down to the ro unit line. Hope that helps

We have copper lines underneath, so I suppose that buying a new one once we move can't be all that expensive. Is it the older homes that have pvc? Ours was built in 2003.

i think it depends on the part of country you live in and what water lines you have - whether it's copper, pvc or old lead pipes.

i hooked my ro/di unit up to my washer line. in my old apartment i used the piercing needle valve to hook it up to the cold water line underneath the kitchen sink. when i moved i just left it.

Yep here in KY all the old houses have copper, most of the upscale new houses have copper and the cheaper ones are pvc. (I got to work as a plumbers assistant untill I found out I didnt like it very much), LOL, new constuction is cool. Fixing old houses and toilets sucks. LOL Steve

yeah i've seen some of the new house construction and they use flexible hose and manifolds to distribute the water throughout the house. alot easier and cheaper to put in as well as repair. you can turn on/off sections of the house without having to turn off the water main.
