Which skimmer to get

what would happen if you turned that filter media more vertical. The water would have to pass through it in order to get into the next chamber.

Well the little piece to the right of the filter pad is where the actual filter piece goes for the biocube, but it gets trapped with stuff within hours and drains the back compartments of water because it slows flow down

"The impeller prototypes have been built with a rapid prototyping machine and are in final testing at the moment. We hope to begin production this month and have the impellers available in August. I can tell you that even the worst performing design far outperforms the standard flat blade impeller that comes with the Maxi-jet.

I am also having the impeller for the Nanocube and Aquapod skimmer pumps made so they should be ready for testing in the next couple of weeks."

so they should be out in august:)

Yeah...well you saw the pictures of how much it gets in just 5 minutes so I can't wait to see the crap it gets out of mine!

So when do you get this? Should work some wonders for you high nitrates. FYI: It won't remove the nitrates directly. You'll need to do water changes for that. But it will remove the gunk before it can turn into Nitrates.

So with that said, have you done in water changes to help get your Nitrates down?

I just did a 10% change and it should be here within a couple days...I should be on here alot more because the jerks from ReefBuilders forum banned me for two weeks...people didn't like the fact that I "pushed buffer products" or "wanted people to have quicker cycles" because some guy wanted more coralline algae and I recommended a 2 part buffer product and I offered BioSpira as a cycling agent...I think it's moreso the fact that the grownups on that site don't like taking advice from younger people...

That or the fact you are (I think) 2 months into the hobby, and they have 20 years on top of that.

most everyone generally agrees that a quick solution is no solution at all in our hobby, more of a band-aid, which is probably why you got flak for the quick fixes you suggested

Ok, since this is on skimmers, I think I will through this out,

Anyone know a small skimmer that will fit on a tank 15 gal oct. 20inch tall w/ a 4.5 inch hole on the top back end mini reef.

Nano remora is too big.

Maybe a CPR back pack?

Well my defense was that they aren't quick fixes they are products to use on a regular basis that will help the person get into a basic routine for the rest of his tank career...and most of the guys on there have less than 2 years experience
