Yeah it only runs @ max

Kind of figured that might be the case. Replace the resistor and you should be fine.

10 years of being a certified Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep tech has its perks. :D That and being a darn fine automotive diagnostician. *lol*

1. Verify the customers concern.
2. Determine related symptom(s).
3. Isolate the problem.
4. Analyze the symptom(s).
5. Repair the problem.
6. Verify the repair.

Bad blower motor/resister. Common in 5.0Ls. I assume your vent selector dial still works? Meaning that you can switch the air outlet from your feet to the defroster and it works? That was a huge problem in one car I was looking at.

Yeah just as you say, all options work. Vent, Defrost, Mix etc. But has to be on max. To bad I'm not as handy as I'd like to be. But I'll give it a shot. One of the many little things to repair. Atleast it runs really strong :D

Why would you replace the T-stat if it is due to an air pocket? Makes no sence as you can introduce an air pocket into a cooling system with doing an r&r of a t-stat

I have seen systems not bled properly, then the car been driven for a period of time cause the t-stat to start sticking. It can be damaged if it's heated up in the system and the air pocket happens to be in the t-stat housing.

Not saying this will happen everytime, but I have seen it happen. If you have to re-bleed the system, may as well throw in another $8 part and not worry about having to do it again.

Also check the connections to your blower motor, I replaced mine a couple years back and it started not moving any air at all the beginning of this winter. Turns out one of the connections had come loose and the motor wasn't getting proper voltage.

I think I need to a big fluid change, coolant, transmission, differential at least thats what the haynes book says. I have a lot of reading to do.

Fords are junk :), just kidding around. The hvac blower motor works by feeding power through the resistor pack which today doesnt use resistors it uses transistor and is now a module. The blower module is bypassed to the highblow relay on max a/c and high blow, thus why its called a high blow relay.:) When you loose low speeds on most fords it usually the connector at the back of the hvac control head going to the blower switch. The connectors melt due to typical ford engineering. Second most common failure point is the fan motor connector then the blower module. Diagnose the problem instead of throwing parts at it.

The comment above about the thermostat is correct. Although has nothing to do with the blower motor. The biggest killer of stats is air trapped in the system by techs and backyarders. The air pocet becomes a steam pocket. Thermostats cannot be steam heated without causing damage.

This is the kind of stuff you make progress on when you don't have reef frontiers to occupy your time =)
