Just wondering how many people use garlic in there food mixes and why. Also what else are you putting in the mix? :D

dose when ever I feel like it soaking the food in kents garlic extreme count? I dont make my own food mix, but I do use garlic. I didnt vote till you tell me. LOL Steve

I use the Kent Garlic Extreme too...does it work?.....I don't know.....Are my fish healthy?....yes....Am I too superstitious to take a chance and stop using it?....heck yes... :D

I feed all my clownfish pairs a rotational feeding regiment.

Mornings they will get either chopped up table shrimp, or chopped up bay scallops, or chopped up calimari squid.

In the evening, i pick from the two above that wasn't fed that morning.

Twice a week I feed some kelp algae flake food for some veggies.

Not using a garlic additive. Saturation feeding is the key to spawning clowns.

i've read it increases immune systems. i think it also increases slime coat and that is what helps guard against ich.

i buy the already chopped garlic at the grocery store. it's like 1.50 for a huge bottle of it. i just use that and drain the liquid as well as some of the small chunks into my food. works well. just funny watching my lawnmower blenny eat small chunks of garlic. i never see him burp though. :)

I haven't used any yet, but tomorrow is grocery shopping day. I'll have to pick up a clove and give it a try...... :D

I use a garlic extract but only if my Blue tang shows signs of Ick, which has been over a year now. I really think it saved his life when he had it; it was like night & day after feeding it to him. Now is it for sure the garlic, umm I don't know but wouldn't bat an eye to doing it again.

that is one way. just buy a head of garlic and peel it and put it in the food processor. i buy it already processed. it's in a small glass bottle and you just spoon it out. it's already to go. it's alot cheaper than the kent extreme which is like 10.00 a bottle. both will last you forever though.

I add it to my chopped shrimp and frozen mysis shrimp mix. I also used to add vitamin C to it. My fish havent been sick or seen ich since before I started using it. The garlic helps keep the immune system strong from what I understand so I use it.

I use it, and sometimes I put a little ginger in there too. It also boosts imune function. I think its most useful in calling my fish out to eat. They seem to respond quicker when their is garlic than without it. It also seems to increase appetite as well.

Does anyone know or think that using it all the time would make it less effective as far as the immune system? I use it all the time when I feed so I've always wondered about it.

I don't know Stan, good question. I know formula 2 has garlic in it, and its for daily feeding. I feed them it any time I get paranoid.

I should add this though, when I had a larger tank I had a naso that was showing no sign of sickness. I had heard that it is an immune system booster so I got some garlic liquid from the LFS and soaked it in nori sheets. He ate it and within 5-10 his coloring had changed and he was lying in the sand. He was dead within 2 hrs. All the other fish were fine, but they also had not ate any of the sheets. Maybe he was just allergic to garlic, or seaweed?

Ok, here is a question for you. Those that do use Garlic, how does it affect your nitrates and phosphates, or organics?
Ed

hmmmm. I haven't noticed that it made my nitrates or phosphates any worse, at least that I could tell was caused by garlic. Hey Brett How much garlic did you use? That seems strange that it would it would kill the naso...my it wasn't an Italian naso?
