I'm currently donating 1-3 hours per week helping to populate Wikispecies with marine taxonomical navigation. This Sat. night I helped to flush out Montipora. It's not comprehensive, but it is a contribution.

I was noticing the quality of images available through Wiki Commons. There are plenty of general images, but there don't seem to be very many species specific ones. Often, then are just titled 'brain coral'... with no scientific name to identify them. I think this is darned shame. Considering the archives of species specific images that many club/discussion group archives are able to accumulate.

We tend to take quite lovely pictures of our corals and livestock. Perhaps some would consider donating species specific images under CC license (some of your cast offs that don't make it into the galleries).

Check out the website below to learn more about this project.

If you do decide to submit photos... would you mind posting a comment here? I would be happy to build out the taxonomical trees. It would give me incentive to get down to the species and subspecies navigation. Like a prize at the end of the race.

Here's an example of someone who has contributed to the Montipora Wikimedia Commons project. It's really simple to do!

Here's how it will be used.
