Cut the head with some of the stalk off and glue it on to the back of my tank will? Will it grow like greet star polyps do?

I wouldn't reccomend doing it that way. Try using a exacto knife or hobby knife and digging under the polyps into the rock itself. Then you can use super glue gel and glue it to a rock.
Remember to use some eye protection and rubber gloves.
Here is a link to a good article on this.

I guess I didn't read your post correctly. You can glue it anything. I just thought it would be better to get the polyps off the rock they are on a little differently, than just cutting the heads off.
I have seen a few tanks with the polyps spreading on tank glass.

you're reminding me of my first zoo razor frag attempt, though i think i got more jsut head then anything, how are they doing btw, any hope?

just a little yellow clown goby, no new corals getting stuff for my new tank, just finished wiring the light except the ground from the pendant, just washed out the tank from handegard and took a couple of pictures, i suppose i could post those in a new thread, think i'll do that

what lighting did you get???

on the first I am getting a new 50 acrylic and a MH set up comes with
2 x 175 w 10k mh
with
2 x 65 w actinic
with
6 x 2 w blue moon lights

ice cap 175w electronic ballast with the PFO mogul pendant and a converter, got this all except the converter from aquarium extreme, the bulbs i got off of ebay, someone parting out their tank, $36 for two bulbs with about 100 hours on them each,

It's a little late to chime in....but you can pull them off with tweezers or cut them. The cut one will grow a new head. Personally I think this stunts their growth though. The best way would be to lay a frag next to the glass and let it run its course.

Anyone have pictures of polyps growing on the backs of tanks or just tank sides in general? I always wanted to do this but have never seen anyone pull it off.

You can grow anything on the back of your tank. If you have zoo's along the floor in the back long enough they will start climbing the walls.
Not zoo's but here is a nice example.

Cool idea Don!

I wish i would've had better luck with SPS. Its really rewarding when you can manage a SPS tank.
