I was fortunate to live high on the hill and not have any flooding but I wonder how all of our fellow reefers held up and if anyone has had any major issues...

We live up on the hill also on the plateau and we lost power one day for like I think 8 hours so I guess not as bad as some people out there.

For some reason downtown Bremerton (the big city) has a seemingly bulletproof electrical grid. We've never had more than a blip when other parts of town have lost power. I still own a little generator just in case, but I've never had to fire it up for anything other than maintenance. I think that if I ever moved to a flood/power loss prone area, I'd probably not maintain my aquarium anymore.

High on a hill, though my island and the surrounding area got smashed by snow. Well, smashed for the PNW. Up in BC where my gf lives was even worse. No power outages though.
I need a generator before i put one more bit of coral in my tank however. I am not dealing with another tank meltdown.

yeah somehow we managed to never have more than a blip here... I think its only because I was prepared and went and bought extra fuel that nothing happened if I did not it would have been out for a month.

It's that Karma thing . . .prepare for the worse and it will not happen:D

When we built our house we added a GenX switch so we could run the house on the generator easily as it seemed everytime there was a breeze the power went out at our place. After adding the switch it was over 2 years before we even got to try it in a power outage:badgrin:

I am so glad we have it now that I have a reef. We did have a short outage right before all of the storms-Power company said it was due to an equipment failure. It was the first time I ran the new tank on the generator. I was pleased to find that all the necessary vital equipment(except the controllor) was routed to the 2 outlets in the fish room that run from the generator (it is only 4400 watts so not hooked up to the entire house) so I did not have to scramble and reroute the cords. Must of been a smart person who set up that tank:rolleyes: Now she just needs to figure out how to get the controllor onto that circuit (cords a bit short).

yeah I installed a transfer switch for friends that have a well, they had one for the whole house but the pump house was completely separate. Like you said they had power failures monthly after installing the transfer switch they have yet to have more than a 10 minute outage for the past year; go figure! I am kind of glad we did not have a major outage though because my batteries are at the end of their life and I did not want to run on generator for more than necessary this summer the system gets new juice for next winter.
