The small xenia frag I started out with has now split into 5 fairly good sized stalks, which is cool and I love seeing good coral growth, but one of them has decided it would like to reside in the middle of one of my colonies of zooanthids. I'd really prefer it didn't, as its shading the poor zoos fairly badly.

Any way to get a xenia to move from its current location? They obviously can walk slowly across the rock, since this one has moved quite a bit.

Hey Dylan, you may try to gently pry him off. Maybe use a wooden toothpick to get under his foot. I can usally use my thumb nail to gently coax my xenia off a rock, but if it is amongst your zoos a toothpickmight have more presision. Once it is off, stick it in a empty hermit or snail shell and drop him where you want it.

using a wide tip regular screwdriver or (better) a sharp chisel, you can bit into the rock just below the coral and skin the polyps off cleanly without touching tissue.

And of course you know zoos can contain a deadly toxin and that wearing gloves and goggles when handling them is adviseable. Just to be sure. Steve

Yeah, I always wear gloves when working in the tank for that reason.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll give this a shot sometime this week.
