around there really
I got pulsing xenias yesterday, and they still look good but they sre not pulsing now

they seemed to stop pulsing when i turned on my 12 lamp, i think i herd that they dont like bright light that much

is there any other reason, cause my water quality is just right!!!!

They take time to adjust and prefer a "mature tank." Mine are under similar lighting and doing fine. Give them some time. There's some anecdotal evidence that they like iodine, but with freshly made up salt, you should be fine there.

thanks ill do just that!!

i hope that is it

ive had them before, and like every once and a while they would turn white on the tip for a day or so, and not pulse as much but after about 48 hrs they would start up again.

my tanks been up for about 3 months i would think that was pretty mature but ill take you advice for it

thank you

i hope you are right, i just worry to much!!!!

Yeah, just give them time. My silver tip xenia took a full week to start pulsing. Now mine pulse like crazy.

A little eye candy for you in the mean time. :D

do they make some kind of digital param reader??

Unfortunately there aren't many electronic tests available. I do, however, monitor pH with my controller. You can also buy a pH meter, Pinpoint is a good brand.

Here's what I do...

Salifert Test Kits
Alkalinity
Calcium
Magnesium
Phosphate
Nitrate

Other Tests
pH monitoring done with Aquacontroller Jr
Temp control/monitoring with Aquacontroller Jr
Sybon Refractometer for salinity
TDS meter for measuring 'total dissolved solids' of RO/DI water

:)

sounds good i like the sound of that salifert cal, and mag test kit

ill probably need 1 for iodine also since my xenias like that too right

do they make 1 for iodine???

Yes, there is an Iodine test but honestly I've never tested or dosed iodine. Never had the need. IME, there is little need for such dosing if you keep up on your weekly water changes. ;)

You knew your reading assignment was coming...lolol. Here is a good article for you: To Pulse or Not To Pulse? Identification of Xeniid Corals in the Aquarium Hobby by Anthony Calfo.

Also, I just wanted to add - IMO, a tank isn't mature until it is around a year old. 3 months is just a baby. There are alot of changes you are going to make to your tank over the next several months, between supplement changes, problems you may encounter, livestock additions, etc. Your tank hasn't even been through a winter yet, and who knows what might happen with your heaters, etc. Lighting, chemical, stocking changes, all keep your tank's "maturity" in flux. You really need to be patient in this hobby, otherwise you'll get frustrated and feel unsuccessful.

yeah nah20, im learning that i have to be patient slowly but surely

i just aint got nothing else to do, its my only hobby. So its just like what ever i do if it dont involve my x box 360, or my ps3 its got to do with my tank

i am kinda backing off now though now that ive lost 3 clownsits kinda taking its toll

my next big thing is just gonna be getting another bulb, and ballast, and a power center timer thing for my light s to be programmed to

yeah im not buying any more live stock, until i get ANOTHER clown trig, but that wont be for about 10 to 12 weeks

i may get another fish to go into my reef tank though

who knows

wow, i thought my 8th grade english lit teach, gave alot of asignments, lol
