I don't know if it is my eyes but......my yellow tang:

eats like a pig
is super active
is breathing at a normal rate
looks well along with the other 3 tangs and 4 clowns

But ----seems to have tiny black dots on random places on his body that I don't ever remember being there.

What could this be?

My parameters are under the chemistry forum with boomer -300 gallon.

Okay, ronj I think you have it nailed. Steve, could it be but on my fish it is those dots all over but no dark bruises or dark tissue. He is looking perfectly health.

The big question is how the heck do I get this little guy out of this big tank? Once I get him, I need to dip him? In FW? What type RO/DI? Same temp. How long? I have never had sick fish and it is a relatively new system so I am feeling pretty veternarianlike!!!!!!

I don't have a QT set-up so if he gets "dipped" can he live in the sump between baths?

Thanks big time.
Brian

I see the link for the dips. It says twice at 3 day intervals. Is this twice total meaning tomorrow and then in 3 days. Then he should be good or twice in a day at 3 days apart?

Hey man if you can go and buy a cleaner wrasse he will clean it up. But they don't last more than a week or two it works try it.

it means one dip, then another in 3 days..i just use a big tupperware bowl or a huge measuring cup to do the dip in...use RO/DI water and aerate the water with an airstone for 30 min before you add the fish...the ph and temp will need to be the same as the tank water that it was removed from, so you will need to buffer the water(Kent Superbuffer)...leave the fish in for no longer than 30min....if the fish starts thrashing during the dip, remove it!!!! i am not sure about the fish being in the display in between treatments..i would get a qt tank...Steve S will be able to answer that question and go over anything that i may have missed!!!! he walked me through this exact treatment before.....

Sorry Steve, got the last names mixed up. You're the fish doc I was referring to. Too many Steves, Brians, Matts, Mikes, :D
No worries, I was just giving you a hard time. :p

Never buy an animal for the purpose of parasite control, especially another fish. They usually end up just as affected as the rest. Who treats them?

A QT tank is very much preferred for any kind of treatment. Even though this does not affect the main system, catching a fish in a small 20 gal long is much easier than a display filled with rock and coral. If anything else goes awry, the fish is exactly where it needs to be.

Ok but cleaner wrasse is from the islands of (Haw) and thats where that fish is from, also it know's the fish. That is like saying don't use a cleaner shrimp it might get sick too, whats up with that,I use those fish all the time thats is what they do look up the fish for your self besides man i've been in this game or hobby for 18yrs and you are telling me don't use that fish. I am sorry but affect a cleaner wrasse:( It's a (parasite Eater)

It eats isopods, scales and fish slime, that's about it. They do not eat all/any parasite(s). I mean no offense to your 18 yrs but any animal added to eliminate a fish parasite is very short sited and ineffective.

Ok thats cool no harm but i know that cleaner wrasse do eat that type of parasite and yeah not all,Oh 18yrs thats cool too:cool:

Hi folks,

I have go a plan. Tomorrow morning - I will get up bright and early and tantalize my tangs with a a pinch of food. Then I will slide my net under him and if all goes well - I will be able to catch him. Today I toyed with the idea and he really doesn't mind the net. Kind of wierd fish but i guess hunger precides over capture. I would probable want to eat too I guess. So wich me luck. I have the bowl ready and a back-up tank going too.

Do cleaner shrimp eat black ich?
As for cleaner wrasse, I really don't know what are the "isopods". Is that the parasite that I am seeing or are they too small to see with the eye?

Thanks for all the help.
Brian

the black spots are the skins reaction to the parasite , not the parasite itself...hope all goes well!!!!...be sure to match the Ph and temp, and aerate the water before the dip!!!

Don't worry about the cleaner shrimp or the isopod. Just do the FW dips Ron has indicated and you'll be just fine. If at all possible, please avoid the use of the net.
