Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Depends on the ammount fed. I would go ever other night, dont leave the glass over the clam to long, that could hurt it to. I would say about 10 mins.

Mike can you please elaborate as to why we should limit the time? I just assumed it was no different than when you feed them by taking them out of the tank. I generally wait for the water to clear up, which takes about 10 minutes for each half batch.

Fill me in old-timer ;)

Removing baby clams to feed them is a tried and true method of supporting these clams {up to 2 to 2.5"}that are so small as to not have sufficient mantle surface area to feed themselves. The bottle is another method that is done too. The best way to make sure that if you ever need to move your clam either for feeding, the must check for pyramid snails, is to place the clam on a clam halfshell or a smaller piece of live rock that can be manually moved. The checking for the pyramid snails to me is as important as feeding as these snails will kill a clam.

With removing a baby clam for feeding the time is either to watch for cleared water or 20-30min.

Yea thier is a bit of a difference. When you put a glass over them in the tank all they have is the oxygen in the water that is under the glass. When out of the tank you have the surface gas exchange.
