I am guessing that I might have to change my bulb. I have a 20 gallon with 150watt halide. the zoas are reaching which I am not sure is normal. Here they are.

It looks like it is reaching for light. Kind of sucks because I can't really see the colors.

place them higher on the tank and see how it changes. if it doesnt change than its something else.i start trying to do that and so far my armor of god is getting that fatty stalks again...

How old are your bulbs and what are they do you have 2 65 watt or do you have 1 150. Your lighting looks rather actinicy (if that is even a word). The only reason I ask is because as your light gets older the less intensity the light will be. Just a thought.

hmmm,me and taichimaster have the same problem on aog's and a few zoas...i have 150w too same as his...and my bulbs are like 3 months old...maybe more wattage?caitlyn yours is 250w right? so im guessing some zoas need more wattage(intense lighting)?particularly aog's?

+1 on lighting. From what I've noticed AOGs are very light demanding. I have dual 250w halides 1 month old bulbs and they are still reaching. The weird thing is that they are the only ones reaching from all my zoas and palys. They are placed mid way down my tank and I cant move them anymore since they started latching onto the rock. Even other zoas and palys I placed on the sand bed are not reaching for the light.

im gonna upgrade to 400w + vho actinics suplement....so i hope this will solve my problem on long stalks aog's..

maybe its time to upgrade to 250w on your nano peter:)

What 150watt bulb, ballast and reflector are you running? How deep is your tank? Is the bulb, reflector, and glass shield clean? Do you have a cover over the tank? It can make a big difference...

I run SE 250watt 12k reeflux, some zoanthids lay flat and some reach.

Getting a stronger light onlys pisses your other zoas/palys off believe me i know!
My light is power ive burnt corals and killed a few! I even have most of z & p's on the bottom and some still get to much light they get thrown in the shade where they thrive! AoG's luv light mines are in the middle of my tank and are happy!

I don't see why a stronger light would be needed, perhaps the older bulbs just aren't hitting the spectrum needed by the palythoa anymore. I would think 150w bulb over a 20gallon tank would be more than enough for ANY zoo, i just think it may be old.. is it a 20k bulb also?

I have a 20k helios bulb running in a Sunpod. 150watts over a 20 gallon standard is overkill in my opinion. I might just need to replace the bulb.

I'm running 250W Helios DE with 2 96W actinics(very old actinics) for 65g, everything happy and my AoGs grow very fast. I really like the color but can't find Helios bulbs anymore.
I have a yellow zoas colony that is reaching even though is way on top. So I moved them to my new 40g frag tank with 250W Radium bulb. Already looking better.

Barrier Reef stop selling the bulbs because they do not warranty them. I bought some coralvue 20ks. should be in the mail soon. hopefully that works. color won't be as nice.

I had pink ploys do that to me, As soon as i put them in better light they went back to normal, now hopefully mine will start growing more now:)
