great photos dang! i would love to have a tank full of the first ones. did you have some stars or nudis eating them or something?

no, nothing ate them,,the water chemistry was changed to full blown sps tank,,before i knew they just start to melted it away to all colony one by one, unrecovered,,some day i like have just a tank full of zoos again.

Wow Dang,
Nice Zoanthids.. I think I have a couple of those... I would love to set up my own zoa only tank as well..

Matt

wwouu dood those are some very nice ones :) .
i have the simple boring ones :p ... but hey if you ever want some let me know dood :) .

Really nice zoos you had Dang!!! I wish we could find that variety here! Maybe I need to look a little harder next time:D

Dang I don't understand. The water and lighting that supports your gorgeous SPS would also do great with the zoas. I seriously doubt that some extra large red bugs gobbled them up:D

Sooooooooo, They die or you sold them off?

they all death,,,i through they just get little unhealhty by closing up,,i was wrong they just melting away one by one,,by that time i so concerned about sps growing rate,,with out paying attention,,my mistake.(picure from the old tank at the restaurant before sps bloom)

jasonD do have the same proplem i had,,but he knew it right a way ,then save it all to the other tank ,my sps tank did not mixed with Zoos for some reason?

NEw here. Those were some gorgeous pieces. I recently lost my favorite from a bad move. Hope to find again soon.

I went through the exact same thing. I switched my tank to 2 x 250 watt Reeflux 12k halides. My zoanthids did really well for about 6 months.

I started adding a few SPS. My SPS started to really take off, then my zoanthids started melting away one colony after the other. The colonies up high started melting. So I moved them down. Then all of them started melting. I moved a few colonies to the sump under less intense light (old 175 watt XM 20k) and they immediately started recovering. I then started moving colonies one by one into the sump and every time they would recover. I tried moving some back and they would start melting again. I ended up giving up on my 120 and setting up a 40 gallon breeder/zoanthid tank (it is absolutely stuffed with zoanthids now.) I lost a few colonies, but most are recovering. I did lose some of the harder to keep zoas like PPEs and my Blueberry's (in the Avatar pic). Some colonies still have tiny polyp syndrome.

I never could figure it out. I think it is either a large predator like a crab (something that does not travel with the colony) or the lighting. I am tempted to switch my reeflux 12ks out for 20ks to see if I can put zoanthids in the display. I did find a 2" crab in the tank. I am yet to catch it. Maybe it was that crab or fish or something else?

So now I have 120 SPS tank and a 40 gallon zoanthid tank. I guess it is not a bad thing. I do miss having a mostly zoanthid filled 120, but picking up a few more SPS helps me feel better. I still can't believe how blue that Oregon Tort is (thanks Dang). What really surprised me about the Tort is when I pulled it out of the bag. It is really that blue. It is not just the lighting. I am getting the SPS bug (not the red kind :) ).

Dang, do you remember what bulbs you where running when the zoanthids where doing good and what bulbs you where running before they started melting?

ushio 400 10k/03 vho everythig blooming fast,,you are right when i start to play around with coralvue 20k and reef flux 10k ,hamilton 14k,then zoo start to melt, are we the same co incident,,,never throught on that.
