    removing scratches in acrylic

I believe it's the Novus 3 that is the heavy scratch remover compound, but it depends on the depth of the scratch whether it'll work or not. You might have to wet sand deep gouges / scrapes with fine grit pads and then switch to the Novus 3, then work downwards to Novus 2 and then finish with...

how do i get rid of these crabs!!??

As a somewhat non-destructive way of catching them (won't damage your coral colonies, etc), take a soda bottle (20oz or 1 litre for an average size tank, 2 litre for a big setup) and clean it out VERY well. Cut the top portion off about 1" down from where the tapered section meets the...

    removing scratches in acrylic

Most plastics shops (TAP Plastics) and some fish stores (Barrier Reef) carry Novus cleaning / polishing / scratch removal products as well, and can give you tips in their use.

    Prettymuch :)

That's sort of what I was getting to... What does it matter the process used to achieve the suction, as long as it does the job they designed it for? If they can accomplish the same task with fluid dynamics that they could with a larger, more expensive component to the pump then doesn't it make...

Yeah, I've got filter socks to clean :( Oh well, it was fun (and informative!) while it lasted :)

Oh come on... I can't be the only guy from Stevens / Spokane County that put the cattle tipping stories to the test! I lived right next to a ranch for about 12 years as a kid, I had to find out if it was true! They fall over like a stack of dimes :)

Both Salty and Sid are from Spokane, they probably each tipped over at least two cows since lunch

I think the more important question in that example is just how fast has he made the car go? :D

I admit that the Magnum canister example is a bad choice to show that a pump can indeed draw water, but using the priming process to disprove it is just as bad. All of the fluid material pumps I've used have to be primed in some way, because they're designed to pump liquids rather than air. If...

In your case Charlie, you're getting extra flow from your sump return so there is another reason besides filtration for the sump flow rate exceeding the processing capacity of the skimmer. Most people would probably say that it's not ideal to try and gain water flow in the display from a sump...

Is your skimmer fed by a pump, or fed directly by an overflow drain pipe? I'm not familiar with your setup. What Salty / Paul are saying boils down to is that there's no real reason from a filtration basis to send more water through your sump than the skimmer can process. If you have a skimmer...

The well pumps I've used do not sit inside the well, they are external and draw the water upwards for irrigation purposes, so it does hold true. Interesting, because I have the Magnum 350 running right now sitting on top of my tank with a polisher cartridge, you don't have to manually prime...

Contentious: Makes people whine, complain, and argue until a thread reaches 10+ pages. It's in the new Webster's edition! :)

Wow. Did we really just whine, complain, and argue this into a 10 page thread in the course of an afternoon / evening? I nominate Salty for the "Most Contentious Posting" award for October

There's also some differences in that "formula" between becketts / downdraft skimmers and the needlewheel / venturi skimmers. I'm sure having a recirculating type would also change things as well for a monsterskimmer like your recirculating quad beckett and whatnot. Too many variables to...

I bought my new pickup from someone who I could have sworn was Elvis. I didn't see Michael Jackson anywhere, but he was probably one of those shifty characters in the finance office.
