Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

This is one coral I've always wanted to showcase, but could never get good enough shots of. This is a maricultured acropora I picked up and then almost immediately had troubles with it. Most of it has recovered completely now, but the interesting side effect is that most of it has long, fluffy...

I really like the look of my ORA Spongodes. It took a LONG time to start encrusting enough to hold itself in place when I dial up my vortech, but now that it has it is really taking off. I still think this is the hardest coral to photograph, looks much better in person! Close up of a growth...

Best/Cheapest glass store anywhere in the Pacific Northwest

These pictures are fairly old (December 13th) but here you go: I actually plan on taking more pictures tomorrow, if/when I do I'll post some here and on my build thread.

Some new photos with the T1i

Going from my original Digital Rebel to my new T1i I noticed that the pictures looked much darker in general and I see the same kinda thing in your shots. Do you notice a difference as well? Also, do you use the onboard white balancing or do you correct it in a photoshop like program?

People dose vodka because it is almost pure ethanol, and ethanol is a carbon source for bacterial life, just like sugar or vinegar can be (when you see people dosing VSV, it means Vodka-Sugar-Vinegar). When you dose this to your tank the bacteria start proliferating rapidly because they have...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

Not the best update. A little bit ago I saw one of my chromis really beat up looking, and the next day all three chromis had completely disappeared. I'm assuming they died in the tank because when I checked my nitrates they had jumped from 0ppm to 20ppm in a little over a month! It might not...

    Tank Building DIY

I think it was ~$150 from Sims Glass (I've always used them for cut glass) and a $14 glass hole saw. For what its worth there is a glass shop in Royal City/Othello (ask RF member Royal Reef about them) that would probably be able to do the same thing for 1/2 to 3/4 the cost. I'm really tired of...

    Tank Building DIY

I made my own 25 gallon 24"x24"x14" rimless cube out of glass. Here are some pictures: Lots more information on that in my build thread (just click on my user name and go to "my webpage").

It'd be great to have you over some time so we could "nerd out". There seems to actually be a fair number of people in Pullman with reef tanks, but considering most of us are out of here in 1-4 years it seems like we would have trouble keeping a full fledged reef club going. Oh well, its only an...

Yep, very slim pickings in the Pullman area. I take it you must have got out of here? The only coral I've ever got from Pets are People too is my really cool frogspawn, and all I have ever got from Palouse Pets are my three chalk bass and some snails covered in red planaria flatworms... For...

Lots of pics, I just got an underwater enclosure for my SLR!!

It is pretty bulky, and my canopy is short so I had a hard time just getting it into the tank and an even harder time maneuvering it around and trying to look through the viewfinder. For some of the shots I just had it on autofocus and "Sprayed and Prayed", but about halfway through I found out...

Lots of pics, I just got an underwater enclosure for my SLR!!

Any time! I have 8x54w T5's with individual reflectors and the coral is pretty much at the top of my rockwork. I'd say it gets medium high, to high light. It is also decently close to a vortech MP40 on full blast lagoon mode. The polyps definitely move around all over the place, but for all of...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

I highly recommend it! The one my fiancee got me is the universal enclosure that looks like a fancy zip lock bag. A little bit scary maybe, but it does its job perfectly (up to 30 ft), and costs significantly less then the $1500 custom enclosures. Just make sure you have a lot of head room in...

As you might be able to imagine I'm a little bit tired of taking pics right now, but next time I break out the camera I promise I'll get a shot of the candy cane colony. Don't know why I haven't before, Its in the perfect area for taking through the glass shots of. Thank you!

Lots of pics, I just got an underwater enclosure for my SLR!!

I took a lot more (non underwater) pictures, including some coral macros during this shoot, but I posted them all over in my build thread (click on my username, go to homepage). Any comments, suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking!

Zoa corner Picasso hosting + Chevron Tang ORA Birds of Paradise The only good picture I've ever been able to take of my ORA Borealis: I still think the main reason to be able to take top down/underwater pictures is for clams. These last two are my absolute favorites. Chalk Bass...

Lots of pics, I just got an underwater enclosure for my SLR!!

Here we go, I'm finally to the underwater pics! This stuff really blows me away, I can't believe how well some of these turned out. It was a little different as some of my corals are really close to the surface of the water and the focal depth on the lens I was using is not that great so there...
