Lighting as it relates to heat...

Yeah, I think pair of them will look pretty sweet. I might build a topless canopy/ shroud to hide the light from veiw if I add some VHOs, which looks uncertain at this point. I like alot of blue, but I can totally picture the 75 with a very bright white to it as well. Glass is awesome!!!

Lighting as it relates to heat...

The pendant james linked to is what I'm going for... I went with the glass tops because they are made to fit my tank. I'd be worried about eggcrate, even if I cut it to just the right size, because I'm pretty sure if my 14lbs cat landed on it he'd go right through... He's also only a concern...

Lighting as it relates to heat...

I'm thinking of doing some sqaure pendants, held above the tank by legs. I mean, I gotta use my welder for something [*grin*]

Lighting as it relates to heat...

Can I use any of these lights with glass tops? I should have mentioned, no canopy. We will have a canopy down the road, but for now, we just have glass tops to keep the kitties out... And I can still use a 175 potentially. How many reefers only have one tank ;)

Lighting as it relates to heat...

I'm getting MH's this weekend. I'm going back and forth between 2x 175s and 2x250s. I'd like to get the 250s, but I don't know how much heat that'll output, and I can't chill the tank... The room will be airconditioned, FWIW. It's actually be air conditioned just for the tank... What's my...

    ricordia browning why?

Having Blue Siera test it costs me less $ too ;) I just thought I remembered you living nearby... When I ran my coral only tank for awhile, I spot fed some DTs and some mysis to the corals, depending on the coral (my Tubastrea loved mysis) the day before each water change...

    ricordia browning why?

Are you feeding the corals? a) if you are, that food can turn into phosphates. b) if you aren't, do. No corals are 100% autotrophic. The corals that most people think of as photosynthetic rely heavily on the zooxanthellae for nutrition, but they still capture food from the water, and depend...

Aqua C Remora Skimmer Problem- HELP

If you can, turn the pump around. It probably doesn't make much of a difference, but oriented that way, the pump can suck in some of the bubbles from the return. That can't be helping the situation ;)

Aqua C Remora Skimmer Problem- HELP

You didn't mention it, but I gotta ask, did you by any chance add any Red Slime Remover? That stuff'll FREAK a skimmer out. My Remora's pulled nice dry thick goo for the first few weeks as well, and then stopped. I put the skimmer on a tank with no skimmer, as a test, and sure enough it started...

    Tropic Marin vs Pro Reef

I haven't had any luck finding out how TM Pro Reef is any different from regular Tropic Marin. We're ordering salt, and it's only $7 more for Pro Reef... Can't go wrong, right ;)

    You would be correct ;)

    Bio-ball reuse/cleaning?

gregb If you dont go back to SW we are not going to talk to you anymore & thats that. I wouldn't give up saltwater ;) I this is my FOWLR. I also have a reef, and would only be turning this fresh if I setup my 25 as a FOWLR at the same time ;)

    Bio-ball reuse/cleaning?

Cool... Now it all comes down to me making a desicion... planted fresh, or a lion..... Drat ;)

    Bio-ball reuse/cleaning?

This one is out of left feild ;) I'm thinking of tearing my 50 down (it has only one damsel) and turning it into a planted fresh tank. I have a bioball wet/dry down there now. I know the biowheels are popular for fresh, so I assume this'll work pretty good. Any ideas on what I should do to...

    The unhappy anemone...

To cariffy, the holding container had heat and a couple of pumps churning the water, with a considerable ammount of surface agitation. Not that stupid ;) Yeah, the rock was all kept submerged, with heat, the first night. It was never dry. I feel that the cycle is a non-issue, as I've been...

    The unhappy anemone...

No sad, I'm sadly BB, I feel that the tank cycle was a non-issue. Total empty volum of the tank/sump is 49 gallons. When the rock was added, I believe about 15 gallons was taken out. We took more out when we added the water from the old tank in the acclimation process. I think this would...

    Leather Disaster-Need Help

Leathers are the most resilient corals I've kept. Don't know how it'll fare, but I'd leave the leathers alone when they get crap on them (unless its a ton from a tank cleaning). Whenever stuff gets on them, they do a little mucas thing and shed a layer of goo, that takes all the detritus with it...

    The unhappy anemone...

Well, I seem to have been passed some bad advice if what you say is true...

    The unhappy anemone...

We tore the whole tank down, and we re-used all the rock. It's alot of rock, dare I say a excessive amount. We switched salts because we were out of any others, and couldn't afford to buy Oceanic (which I've been having problems with) and Tropic Marin. We kept the critters in the original tank...
