    Clam

I have a clam in a reef tank which puts up with an encroaching montipora, assorted snails, hermits, a peppermint shrimp and a rowdy tailspot blenny which will steal food that falls on its mantle. The conch tries its temper, feeling over the mantle with his 'trunk', but so far no damage, no problems.

    Algea or Bacteria Infection?

Installing a Sea Swirl helped my situation: flow now gets everywhere, and without great violence in current.

Help: New MH Bulb- Avoiding light shock

If all else fails, use some windowscreen in black to reduce the light reaching the tank.

    Chip in glass!!!!!!

Pressure on a tank wall gets more critical as it nears the center of the pane. It's that pyramid-thing. If the chip is nearer the center, it's more of a problem.

    temperature tollerance

I would suspect the thermometer. I've had coralline bleach badly after 2 hrs. at 85. I always run two thermometers of different type to be sure I'm not trusting just one, and no matter how many thermometers I replace, they're never in agreement.

    reef complete or...?

I use Kent Turbo Calcium and Kent Alkalinity Super Buffer, both powdered, plus Oceanic brand salt. I've been happy with the general stability. I put the buffer into my topoff reservoir and hand-add the calcium.

    tank cooling

Get rid of lids in your system, such as lids on the sump. Consider a rollabout airconditioner: 500.00 at Lowe's. They work, they cost a little less than a chiller, and they keep you cool as well as your tank. If absolutely all else fails, reverse your day/night cycle to have the lights on only...

Adding new live rock to an established system

From Aquatic Dreams. I lucked into a reefer breaking a tank down, so I had the coralline and wildlife, but the tanked rock is good too. I've seen everything from branched to fine branched to rocks and holey rocks. Absolutely no crud on it, nothing that has to be scrubbed off.

Adding new live rock to an established system

That bit about fully cured live rock with all the critters on it not starting a cycle is pretty well true. I set up my tank with a lot of it and hardly had a cycle: even the mushrooms and sponges came through fine. Then I added another huge holey piece [maybe 15-20 pounds] with mushrooms all...

    Mixing Anemones with LPS

It's an adventure. ;) If your 'nem is happy and stays put, life is good. Sebaes, for instance, are very good at migrating---and will go where you least want them. I've done it. But if you really want the look of an anemone and a little less mobility [though they can move!] try a long-tentacled...

    I may be Screwed

Your mag float magnet can often fish it out. Just make passes above and around your rockwork with half the magnet.

    montipora and acro fadding

You know, seems to me I have heard something about too much phosphate remover getting to the corals.

    Aptasia...Grrr

And bristleworms are a good thing. I probably have a hundred or so in my 52 gallon, some of them with names. Sam is about a third of an inch wide, when bunched up. They reduce the snail and fish poo to something the corals can use, and they clean the holes in the rock. Aiptasia have no helpful...

    treating w/coppersafe HELP!!!!!

Hopefully he will respond. I take it there are other chromises. You might as soon as you get that copper level down try a tiny amount of some live food. That will sometimes perk up a flat appetite, but watch the filtration if you do.

    What did i do now....

YOu came close: it will probably recover, but will take several days for the rock to cool off. Keep the place cool and use fans in the sump.

    treating w/coppersafe HELP!!!!!

Is this copper treatment in your main tank? If so, really major problem. If this is your qt tank, treatment has gone on too long. Keep reducing that copper to 0. You may have to observe them for a week or so and keep those parameters immaculate, with careful feeding and temperature monitoring. I...

    Puff of white smoke!

I just had a stomatella do this while speeding across the glass: never saw one move so fast. Five puffs, like a locomotive.

    How Many Use Tap Water?

WHat will generally cure you of any desire to use tap water is a query to your city water department. You're entitled to a report on your local water quality and the content of your water. In Oklahoma, we had a ph of 11, arsenic in the wellwater, pesticides, and several plastics compounds that...

    Maroon clown getting picked on

One fast way to get a fish out of a display tank: get a lot of empty barrels and borrow a big pump. Pump the water out, pretty fast. As you get within a foot of the bottom, hollow one corner of your sandbed. Pump some more. When the water gets down to the last, your fish will congregate in the...
