    tank heating

Great! Now you've got me thinking about spending MORE money on a controller! What about the Aqua Logic Controllers - they're a little cheaper than the Medusa. Any thoughts people?

    Neptune Systems AquaController 3 help

I have a AquaController 3 and a Direct Connect 8 Module that I have yet to setup on my system. I'm trying to understand the pros and cons of using such controllers. Here's my setup so far: Two 100 gallon displays sharing a 75 gallon live rock sump/macro-algae refugium. One display is a mixed...

    tank heating

What makes a controller so much more accurate than a heater? Controllers and temperature probes don't last forever either. And that's why you always use at least two, in case of one failing. The degrees knob on a heater are never very accurate and it usually takes some time to dial it in. I...

    tank heating

I have used jager heaters and they have very accurate temperature settings so I'm not sure why you would use a controller? I recommend two heaters minimum.

    Sufficiant lighting or no?

Thanks for your replies! I was a little skeptical about the amino acids claim, but I don't know much about that kind of stuff. Anybody from Reef Frontiers have a comment about this?

    Sufficiant lighting or no?

Not to hijack the thread, but I am wondering about actinic lights for coral growth. There is a nearby fish store (I won't name names) that claims T-5 bulbs have "amino acids" or help create "amino acids" that help corals grow that no other type of light (MH, CF) can produce. It sounded a...

    Purple Mushrooms Dying

watch fluctuations in your pH and salinity (make sure you are using pH adjusted top off water regularly). sounds like it could be a water quality issue to me (nitrates, nitrites, phosphates too high). with pc lights it shouldn't be light shock. good luck.

    Algae refugium vs. Xenia refugium

I've been ready "Reef Invertebrates" by Calfo and Fenner and they talk about "pruning" your algae on a regular basis. Their theory is that some of the stuff that the macro algae absorbs can reach a threshold where it can come back into your water system. Seems like a good book - you should...

    MH - single-ended or double-ended?

so, Marinedepot claims DE bulbs produce less heat - any comments?

    MH - single-ended or double-ended?

Hey Brian, please e-mail me back about the tank, thnx! PM sent.

    MH - single-ended or double-ended?

Which one is better? It seems like double-ended bulbs are a little more expensive. Do they last longer? Put out better light? I see that double-ended doesn't come in 6,500K. Why would you use one over the other?

    Frag Tank

I have sent a quiry to IAP for a custom acrylic 72 x 24 x 13 frag tank (about 100 gallons) and I am still waiting for a reply. Anybody have ideas on how I can manage flow? I'll probably be using raised egg crate with plugs for the frags. I would like to build a high-flow closed loop system...

How long to T-5 bulbs last regularly? Anybody know how to wire a ballast to overdrive T-5s?

    T-5 light recommendations

Reefdaddy1, what does overdriving do to the bulbs useful lifespan? How about extra heat? How exactly do you wire it to overdrive? Thanks in advance!

    T-5 light recommendations

I just want your people's opinion about this before I drop some cash: I have a 50g tank (36x15x20) and I want to do 4 x 39 watt T-5 overdrivin with an Icecap 660 ballast. Is this enough like to keep clams and sps towards the top of my tank? I think 6 bulbs would be too wide for my tank. Let...
