    DSB size

    Any suggestions about the flow rate for a DSB? Ecobalance, is there a calculator for this? As for flow in the main tank, I will also be using a closed loop so my total flow for my 50g tank will be around 1,000 gph.

    Thanks MikeS! Yeah, 6" might be better. Would growing a little Chaeto on top lessen it's nitrate reducing potential? What about lighting for a DSB? I was thinking about 130W CF. Suggestions and comments appreciated!

    Lighting questions for a 50-g reef

    I've decided on a single 250w halide (10k) with spider reflector for my 36" long tank. The base of the light/reflector will be mounted 12" above the water. Any thoughts on if this is adequate? I would eventually like to try a couple sps corals and maxima clams and add some actinic lighting...

    Peninsula tank overflow options?

    I have a Mag7 return from my sump with two 1" overflow drains and it works, but seems close to capacity. A friend of mine has a Mag9 with two 1" overflows and he's having to throttle down the pump to keep the noise down. Trust me - you'll want to make your drains as quiet as possible! Nobody...
