How'd it go? Anything still alive? I am thinking about ordering from here maybe in a couple weeks and now I'm a little nervous!

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

So far, with just some fresh water tests, everything seems to be holding up great! I guess the real test is the long term so I'll keep you informed if I have a disaster. I siliconed the surface of the joints before I put them together, then I silicone-beaded the joints again (like caulking the...

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

I really need to get some pictures on here! I drilled the back side of my tank for my overflow (1") into the sump (10 gallon glass). My returns (3/4") are going through a SCWD over the rim of the tank. Mag-5 in-sump return pump (cheaper at MarineDepot.com than your LFS). I made a custom...

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

My first reef tank is only a 22 gallon (glass was about 1/4" thick). Not many tanks like this one you can find anymore. It is 29lx11wx16h (weird dimensions). Why did I choose such a small tank? One: it was free. Two: I would cost me less to stock the tank (rock, corals, fish). Three: I...

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

Update: Mission Accomplished! For those of you who are interested, I drilled my tank today and I have to say that it was VERY easy! Here's how I did it: I used a leftover piece of plexiglass (1/4" acrylic from HomeDepot) I had lying around and drilled a "guide" hole. Then I took a 1/4" thick...

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

I just ordered a diamond hole saw from shopsmartxpress.com and with shipping it comes to a little over $50 (1 3/4"). I guess I will be the one in Seattle lending it out to fellow reefers (fish that is:). Maybe the PSAS wants to buy it from me at a discount once I'm done using it and have it as...

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

Yeah, by drilling it! It is breaks, it's tempered! If it doesn't, it isn't! The guy at the glass shop says there is no way for him to tell.

    new store!!!!

Denny's is alright, but their prices on equipment seem a little steep. The guys who work there can be pretty cool if you get to know them. At first I thought they were real jerks, but they've grown on me. Their livestock is so-so to okay. They seem to move stuff quickly and I was told Monday...

    Substrate Question?

Hi everyone - I have a question for ya! I was wanting to use "sugar-sized" substrate for my little reef tank. I was looking at Aragmax Bahama Oolite 30 lbs for a 22 gallon tank (.5-1.1mm). According to Reef Central's calculator, it would give me about an inch and a half. I am wanting this...

PSAS Tank Raffle - open to everyone!!!

I want to buy a raffle ticket but the Paypal link doesn't offer a place to write my name and phone number. Any suggestions?

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

Well, I went to McIntosh glass today and they weren't able to drill the hole. First, they said I needed to disassemble the tank and bring them only the panel. They would do the disassembly for me but they charge $80! Second, he said that if the glass was "safety" glass it would shatter right...

    Below Sea Level?

Does anyone remember Aquarium Concepts in Shoreline (Aurora and 145th NE)? I used to love that store! Eddie (one of the guys that worked there) was a great guy who knew loads about tank setups and stuff. This is where I first got hooked! They closed their retail store a couple years back and...

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

Oh yeah, I am going to have this tank drilled this coming week (spring break) so I'll let you know how it went.

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

okay, here's my dilema! I'm setting up a 20 gallon long tank that's 29" long, 11" deep, and 14" tall (I'm not so sure of the verticle measurement). The stand uses 2x4s laid on their side as a base for the bottom corners of the tank. I want to utilize a 3x5" internal overflow box in the corner...

What type of salt do you prefer?

Ok, IO (Instant Ocean?) seems to be the clear favorite so far. But where is the best place to get it? LFS? Internet store? Anyone found super cheap price? WHAT ABOUT THE "REEF" SALT? Is it worth it? Nobody sees to use it or the Seachem brand. So far, I have found it mixes very quickly and...

What type of salt do you prefer?

I just wanted a local perspective of the salts you have used, where you get it from, and good or bad experiences. I am just starting a new tank and I picked up some Seachem Reef Salt from Denny's Pet World in Kirkland that I am curing 30lbs of Lalo rock with. Seachem has a post introducing...

Best Salt Mix for Mixed Reef?

Has anyone ever had any experience with Seachem's Reed salt? I'm thinking about giving it a try for my 20 gallon mini-reef tank. Right now I have 30 lbs of Lalo rock curing in this salt water. Anyone have something good/bad to say about this brand? "Reef" salt in general vs. "regular" salt?

    Glass tank bulkhead drilling

I just found McIntosh Glass Co. in Ballard (206-783-1884) who says they will charge $25 a hole. Sounds about right - I'm gonna bring my tank down in a couple of days and have them look at it. If anyone else is interested, I'll let you know how it goes.
